2 potential mods

Post by Mike1nw »

for our 09 125
1. Sidestand engine shutoff switch, run in series with the engine kill switch
2. Small Add-on tachometer (digital)

Any ideas for either?

The side stand switch would be good for safety. I never used the side stand though. Friend who purchased my old black Buddy always used the side stand but he replaced the clutch springs with new ones so strong he could warm the Buddy on the side stand in the winter and it wouldn't run away!

The guy who purchased my old black Buddy also put a back lit Koso analog sweeping needle tach on the windshield mount. Only thing I recall was him having a hard time wiring it in. He successfully got it to turn on and off with the scoot (Buddy 125) and not have a parasitic draw while turned off. Tach looked factory after he swapped the dash lights out to match in blue back-lit.

I don't use the sidestand either. Scooters simply aren't that stable on the sidestand. My Vespa S150 doesn't even have one.

I installed this tachometer on one of my other scooters:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PMJH7QV?th=1

It detects RPM via a sensor wire wrapped around the spark plug wire, and it has a setting to accommodate however many cylinders the engine has to give an accurate readout. It works quite well, I'm sure, by the manufacturer's definition - but it is heavily damped, so it takes a second or two to accurately reflect the current RPMs. It isn't anywhere near as useful or interesting as I'd hoped, except to confirm that idle speed is within spec and to convey some sense of engine speed at higher, steadier scooter speeds. I can't say I recommend it.

I had bought a tach by that seller, for my Sportster, it worked for about 5 min. I sent it back for a refund :(
Thank you

As for sidestand switch, my Suzuki has one, so I'm accustomed to it.
The Buddy is actually swmbo's, the rare instances that she rides it, a SS switch would give me peace of mind...
