I HATE YOU FOR CALLING YOUR BUDDY BROWN HORNET!!!
JUST KIDDING!!! No worries, robonz23, you didn't ruin my buddy's name! I still call it THE GREEN HORNET anyway and will prolly do some "cool graphics" like you said, or at least THE INSIGNIA! I'm thinking I'll just put it on the bottom of the mudflap and on my helmet for now... I just didn't want to seem like I was copying, seriously you have to admit tho both are wicked-sweet names and for different reasons. I'll be sure to post some pics whenever it's done! good luck with your brown-out!
Got my "Green Hornet official insignia" stickers made online. I just measured out all the stickers I wanted then got them all printed on one rectangular bumper sticker so it was pretty cheap. I used www.4bumperstickers.com. You can use a template they have or just upload your whole image. I'm assuming you need to fit everything into either a 3x10 ($4.99) or 4x13.2 ($5.50) so there is no stretching. I got the larger one and it made 3 circular stickers about 3 inches a piece, 2 small circle stickers about 1.5 inches, 1 (2 inch) hornet, and various other small rectangular text stickers... it's a pretty sweet deal. I have a couple pics on flickr:
In italian, hornet/bee is "vespa", but isnt that a genuine?
I like the idea though, I dont care if that is the definition, the bike itself still resembles a "vespa" A scooter doesnt have to be a vespa to be a vespa.
Someone mentioned that before, but I wasn't trying to call my Buddy a Vespa, it's THE GREEN HORNET, like the late 60's TV show about crime fighting vigilantes (where Bruce Lee plays the martial arts sidekick Kato)! DUH!
Okay, I was gonna make a whole new post for this cuz it's so important, but it fits in this tread... So after much indecisiveness about painting my Bud (if I should, what colors to use, etc.), I have chosen a job that shouldn't be too much trouble, but change the look a lot. I was thinking about it all last night while I couldn't sleep cuz I had too much caffeine. I came up with a modified two-tone job, but the really good idea came to me in my dream, exactly how it should be... Of course the one in my dream had a chrome engine and pipes, but we're talking about paint here.
I'm definitely keeping the green, but making the cream a richer tan color and adding some pinstriping (it will look a bit different from the picture, but I'm having wings on the front for sure). I was thinking about using that black reflective stick-on pinstriping instead of paint as a safety feature, but also cuz it will look awesome at night. I'm going to chop the front fender a bit too... I've always wanted to because to me it's kinda beak-like and I like the rounder shape better. It will probably be a little while before I have the time actually DO this, but I photoshopped a pic I had so you can what I'm talking about:

Hey thanks guys! Pax, you got somethin' against trans ams? I think they're hot. Anyways, it won't be a stencil, it will be pinstriped, so the lines will be thinner and sharper and I'll probably throw some white or orange accent stripes too. I can't wait to do it. I was looking @ paint while I was at wal-mart today and they didn't have the right color Krylon Fusion. They did have the right color in Rustoleum tho. I guess I should hold out and get something specifically made for plastic... maybe I'll check Hobby Lobby? Does anyone know where to get more colors? We don't sell Krylon at work (Lowes). We have Valspar, which has lots of colors, but I'll have to read the back to see how it will bond with the plastic. Any input is much appreciated!
go talk to someone at a autobody shop the can mix any color and you can rent a sprayer it might be a bit more money but you will get 1.paint that sticks and 2. a better finish. or i would have the body shop do the work . with me beening in the hole classic car thing and go to alot of car shows i see alot of paint jobs some not so good . and ive done some painting my self and its alot of work to get it right of couse i try to get that just like glass paint job.( im a bit of a freek) but i love the colors you picked it realy gives it that 40s 50s look like a old street rod. very classy!!
good luck let use all know how you do
Thanks, I was planning on going the electrical tape/rattle-can route, and my dad knows a guy that could probably clear coat it for me... I'm a bit of a perfectionist too especially when it comes to my PRIZED POSSESSION! I'm fairly confident it will turn out better than the pic. I think this dampness is supposed to subside soon, so hopefully I can post some REAL before and after pics maybe next week! Wish me luck!
KRUSTYburger, that paint job is awesome. I know I am going to get in trouble for this comment, but I am not the biggest SI fan. I would buy your version in a heartbeat. Best I've seen so far in my opinion. Go for it!
I am also in the process on picking a new paint scheme. Unfortunately I have a brown seat and interior panel which limits some of my ideas. I really like my brown seat, but the interior panels are a problem. Not sure they will hold paint real well.

Toddrw, there are a few people on here that have painted their interior panels with flat Krylon Fusion and I've heard it's quite durable... Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I've heard any complaints about scratching/chipping. If yours are brown, you (or previous owner) must've already painted them right?

maybe someone on here wants different panels/seat too and will trade with you?
06 sunsets came with orange panels and 07's came with brown. Genuine never updated their picture. I think it would be best to buy new panels, but they are a big pain to install and I am trying to do this on the cheap. I guess I can always paint them and if it doesn't work out then buy a new set. I have a feeling that the interior panels are backordered and not a speedy delivery.
jfrost2 wrote:How much is that cover and how does it fit? I saw it at a MC shop locally, but it didnt have a price sticker.
Are you talking about my CoverMax cover? If so, I think it was like 40 bucks... I don't really remember, I got it with my scoot which was over the phone. He was telling me they had cheaper ones and more expensive ones, and the CoverMax was somewhere in the middle. It isn't water PROOF, but it does really well at keeping water out. I can usually ride after a rainy night without having to dry the seat. It fits the Buddy well and has a vent for air circulation and also a UV coating. Overall I'd say it's very good, not that I have much experience with covers to compare, but my dad has a dif kind and it is lousy for keeping the rain off... not sure what brand it is. I'll check and let you know.
Krusty or somebody -
I used to be a techie, but something about photoshop I just don't get - how the h%$^ do you change the color of something? I heard that it's a layer. Huh?
You do such cool stuff with PS. If you're so inclined, I would love it if somebody would email me a quick tip or reference link. It's a mystery to me!
Thanks.
Paint a layer of the new color ontop of the scooter picture, and on that colored layer, set it as "Color" on the bottom right menu. It'll change the original scooter color, to the new one, and do some erasing or cutting to make it look cleaner and more realistic.
Not to argue but i had an 06 before (rip u.a.v.) and it was brown also, there is a picture of it at the top of the tornado r'alley thread over in general.
as for the footpegs, i do bump my calf on them at times, and they arent placed where i could really ever use them. i have them mainly for looks and my passengers. sure i could take them off when i am one up.. but that is just too much hassle for me.

So, I didn't know how I could possibly improve on the Italia.
well... there is ONE thing...
Marry me??
And if the county we invented will fall from grace
I guess we'll have to fly away in our own space...Think Locally ..F*ck Globally
I was once asked If I were a tattoo what would I be?... I responded Id be a teardrop Tattoo under a bloodshot eye.
wow, thats really awesome. I had the thought a while back to cover my car in comic book pages, but scan all the pictures and have it vinyl wrapped by somebody. The color would last a ton longer than using a decoupage technique with a sealer on top... I don't know how much it would cost, but I don't think it would look as good on a modern scoot like Buddy.
yeah, probably not, and that breaks my tiny frigid little heart. although, i am thinking that if i just did the one panel that's like, the focal point, it might be neat. hrmm....
maybe i'll save that for when i get a vintage scoot. probably.
by the way, i love your illustrations. we should have a scooter sketch jam, haha. i'm working on a project right now you might like. scootzilla, a magazine/periodical (it's for a class). and i also need to make a simple logo that i can do a 3x3 or smaller linoleum block of (oy)...
i'll show you what i come up with mayhaps.

I've actually seen a (modern) Vespa done like this. They used black & white comic panels, done in a repeating pattern. So the art was a little generic, but the application was done very well and it looked pretty cool overall.
I'm not 100% it was vinyl, but I'm not sure how they would have painted it. Looked totally smooth from a small distance.
Someone else spotted the same scoot in the same place a day before I did, but I've never seen it since.

As far as Bruce Lee goes, well, yeah—The Man... But how about Steven Chow or Tony Jaa for the new Green Hornet movie?
ohhh thank you so much for posting that, ive been googling scooter seat covers for the past hour, and all that comes up is rickshaw covers, my rough house is getting a make over
