Couple RH Questions

Post by TomCat »

When I took delivery, the dealer spent quite a bit of time covering aspects of the RH & may very well have explained these, but with information overload at the time I now can't remember. The "manual" is useless.

After unscrewing the knob to get at the oil reservoir, does the cover just pull straight off or do you lift up before pulling on it? I don't want to force anything & break it.
There is a swing-out loop just north of the reservoir cover. What's that for?
Under the steering column & above the vehicle sticker there is a small oblong cover. What's that for and how do you remove it (just pry it off with a screwdriver)?
Thanks in advance for helping out a newbie.

To get to the oil container... remove the knob and just pull. Takes a little bit of force but not so much to pull the scoot off the stands. The small rectangular piece in front is the cover for the VIN. You can pry that off with the screw driver.

The swing out loop... that's for holding bags on your floorboard. It's extremely handy for a quick run to the store.

Thanks for the reply spr0k3t!

Each day that goes by I'm becoming more comfortable riding the RH.
The break-in period is taking forever just riding side streets. Half throttle is about 25mph on the speedo & the lowest speed limit on main drags around here is 40 (which would be about 45 on the speedo). So until I reach 200 miles & can open up the throttle more, I'm stuck on side streets.
I realize proper break-in will payoff in the long run, but I'm sure the neighbors are getting tired of watching (hearing) me go around in circles. The sub I live in is only 5 blocks wide & 2 blocks long.

Just thought of another question.
Would a throttle cable adjustment eliminate the lag time before the tranny kicks in? I'd much rather have immediate engagement instead of guessing when it's gonna grab.
Thanks!

Removing the slack isn't going to do anything really. If you want the clutch to kick in sooner you would need weaker clutch springs. That would not be the best of ideas.

Sproket is correct, just give it a little more gas on take off instead of increasing the rpm's little by little. That will also help you to become more comfortable in a real world situation. Very rarely are you going to be able to just putt off from a red light so might as well break in your confidence while your breaking in your scoot!

As mentioned in another thread, you can try holding the rear brake (the left lever), and give it some gas until you feel the clutch engage, then ease off the brake and off you go. You will get used to it, your still in the "getting to know your scooter" phase. And don't worry about the neighbors, they just think a swarm of bees is going by.

Once you're used to it the throttle can be used as an on/off switch

Seriously, once you're used to it you'll just hit the throttle harder and ease off as you get to speed. In no time you'll be a pro!
