I needed a backup scooter for friends and family to ride when visiting. I liked the R50 because it has more legroom than a buddy. I'm not crazy about the handling since I weigh 250 lbs. It runs strong GPS'd at 41 mph 49 indicated down a slight incline and holding 38mph in the flat. Scooter was like new except for....it had been dropped on both sides. Right side looks fine, left side has some road rash on the rear side panel. The scooter looks new everywhere else. I had to install a new rear brake lever because the PO glued it back together, IE not bright. So far I'm liking the ride but I'm leaning toward a stage 2 kit. I need it to hold 45mph in the flats. I picked it up for $1k and thought it was pretty sweet price. Image

A Rough house for 1k aint a bad deal, congrats on the bike, I had to ride one when my Ratwas down awhile back, not a big change except for the speed.

Have you tried to adjust the preload on the rear spring? I take my wife for a ride on my Rattler and it handles ok with some added preload. Combined we are over 300lbs.

That's a hell of a find for 1K. You could really push the limits with the right hardware. Get that sucker going about 55 in the flats when done right. Just remember though, the more tuned you push the engine, the quicker you will be finding it needing a rebuild.

Tuner tip... final drive can be changed out from helix cut to flat cut for a higher top end. Helix cut gears drop the noise level down by sacrificing a higher top end. On a 50cc going WOT, who needs the noise to be cut down anyway?
