2009 Buddy 125 (700 mi) or 2015 (2800 mi)

Post by bnebz »

Both are from sale from a dealer. The 2009 looks cleaner from a quick walk around. I just wanted to check in to see if anyone had thoughts (e.g. improvements between 2009 and 2015, buying a 7 year old scooter with little use, etc.). Any thoughts are much appreciated.

The dealer is asking $1500 for the 2015 and $1400 for the 2009. He said he is probably willing to go down just a bit on both.

Are both scooters Buddy 125's? It is unclear to me if the newer on is the same. There are no real mechanical differences between a 2009 Buddy 125 and a 2015 version of the same. The newer one should definitely have the louder horn but I don't know what year Genuine started doing that upgrade and I believe the newer one has a USB charging port vice standard 12v DC charger (again, I don't know when Genuine moved from the DC hookup to the USB style).

The miles on either bike aren't bad and both should have tens of thousands of miles left in them if treated correctly. Are all body parts about are about the same? There shouldn't be any long-term issues with the 2009 if the dealer has worked on it and got it running (there are many examples on here of bikes sitting for more several years and be resurrected to be reliable runners). The only things that I would be concerned with on either bike would be the battery, tire condition, any leaks, and all new fluids.

I would buy the 2015, I can't see any reason to even consider the 2009 if they are in similar shape.
