Hooligan fuel consumption

Hooligan fuel consumption
I only have 338 miles on the scooter and I am on the fifth tank of fuel. I noticed that my consumption has steadily dropped from 74 down to 64 mpg. Is this something I should worry about? Or is it just the breaking in process?

I've not figured out my mileage on my Hooligan. I fill up every 100 miles whether I need to or not. If you are not experiencing any performance changes (other than mpg) I don't think you've got an issue. You might be giving it more throttle as the engine breaks in. I tend to be heavy handed on the Hooligan because its the type of bike that invites that treatment.

I sometimes have a tough time getting the hooligan to fill consistantly due to the shape of the neck or something. I have had a few occasions where I get 90 1 week and 65 the next with very similar riding styles- but I don't think my actual mileage was that different. I just don't think I filled it to the exact same height.
If that doesn't make sense... well I'm having a tough time explaining myself today

By the way, the last few squares on the fuel gauge vanish very quickly. I still have not learnt how much is left when the last one disappears.

Use your odometer to determine your mileage it's much more accurate than sensing when the tank is full.

I use my GPS to determine my mileage- I just let it keep a running total and keep notes.
What I meant was that the auto-shutoff on the gas pump will sometimes click off at inconsistent points. If you top-off (even though you aren't supposed to) sometimes it clicks off again right away and sometimes you can put another .2 or .3 gallons in.

I own a Yager, not a Hooligan, but the fuel filler and fuel tank location is very, very similar. When fuelling, if I've really run the tank down, it sometimes won't fill all the way.
I fill when on the centerstand, so the front of the tank is lower than the rear and it seems to trap an air bubble there. I can fuel more consistently if I fill until it until the pump clicks, then push down on the rear rack to "burp" the tank. It's not a significant amount of fuel capacity, but if your tank is under 3 gallons, it'll be noticeable when you check your tripmeter between fillups.
So, if you run it low, try "burping" your Hooligan when you fill it up and see if that makes for more consistent fuel range.

My wife is running 86.8 mpg with a high tank of 103.0 tracked since I converted it pink 6,582.5 miles ago.
Our sucky FORD truck is holding at 16.6 mpg (did I say sucky?). I say 'holding' because every time i start it, it seems to be getting worse. What's that they say about FORD's? I'm thinking it is worth about what a chinese scooter might be worth. This aint really rambling, this is slammin! Just not impressed know how!

Never thought about burping it.
So from the last fill-up the gauge showed all 12 LCD 'pips' on. 35 miles later it still showed full. Then every 5 - 7 miles I lost a pip.
Last time it was down to no pips and took 1.1 US gallons. This time it showed 3 pips and took 1.1 gals.
Per the Owner's Manual the tank holds "about 6.0L" I think that is about 1.58 US gallons. I still had 0.4 gals in there, enough for 30 odd miles.
By the way, this tank was back to 72 mpg.
This is driving me nuts. Maybe I should take a gas can with me and run the gosh-darned thing dry so I know fer sher what is in there.

Never thought about burping a tank!
Personally for me the entire MPG tracking is just too much like work. MPG is mainly related to tire inflation, weight, wind...and riding style.
I'm at 165 lbs, check my tire pressure regularly... and hammer the snot out of the Blur. I'll probably put a windshield on it...for a little more speed and comfort.
If I get 5 or even 10 mpg less because of how I ride it...well the fun is worth the extra 40 cents per tank!

It is a small extra step to track the fuel consumption. I do it for all of my vehicles. I look for a dramatic change that might indicate an engine problem.
I can tell you I paid $1.43 for a gallon of regular for my truck in 2003! And $3.00 in January 2011.

straight answer Raputtak,
Breaking in my new Hooligan with 200 mile first service. Actual mileage 204.6, 2.2 gallons of gas measured used, miles per gallon equals 93. My average for this first break-in leg about 35 mph. Book says stay under half throttle but I really don't know what this means. At 35 mph the tachometer reads 6000 rpm which certainly isn't half twist of the wrist. Peak power for this engine is at 7k rpm, but if you run this bike at half that say 3500 rpm you're breaking the Hooligan in at 20 to 25 mph which is ridiculous. This engine idles at l800 so I wish that Genuine would be better to state an rpm range for break in.
I am happy with the mpg since this is a lot better than my Buddy 50 with the 2 stroke engine. I gotta say thought that on the initial take-off up to 25 mph the 50 is awful close in acceleration to the Hooligan 170i.
Quality wise, Genuine/PGO builds great products.
