It's spring, getting ready to ride and 1st post

Decent weather lately and I've been riding around a bit. Looking for more info on my scooter and discovered this site. After looking at a lot of the posts on the Hooligan, I saw that there weren't that many around on here yet and thought I'd give my thoughts (without jacking others' threads). The pic is of my Hooligan and my wife's Lance Havana Classic.

I'm in Idaho, occasionally commute on back roads (40 mile round trip. road range from 35 to 50 posted limit). I've got a little over 1000 miles on it and most of those are commuting. 1st oil change at 400ish miles. At that oil change, oil was down by about 1/2 from starting level. It's never used any oil since.

I use an old GPS intended for bicycling on mine. At first I had a real problem getting much over 50 true mph. I got a windshield and the engine broke in more and now I can maintain >55 on anything close to flat. I'm not sure if the windshield or being more broken-in raised the speed, but whatever- that's what she'll do now. Both the Odo and Speedo are low by about 10%.

I've taken it on Forest Service unpaved roads that were "wash-boardy" with water bars, loose gravel, and some decent climbs. It did surprisingly well although the length works against it a little. The floorboard flares out around the engine tunnel and those little mini-boards are effective for short stints of standing. The bars are too low for serous shenanigans though (at least at my height, 6' 2").

So far, it has exceeded my expectations overall.

Now the thing that has me stymied is the factory windshield does not fit as it's supposed to. I made it fit as a mirror mount and it looks like it belongs there, but if anyone knows the secret without ripping off and drilling the handlebar housing I'd love to hear it.

Welcome to MB and thanks for the Hooligan info!

Your better speed is probably a bit of both breaking in and a windshield. Sorry but I don't have any mounting suggestions.

I haven't ridden one yet but it looks like a blast! Glad you're having fun with it!

Please keep us updated, there are some here looking for as much info on the Hooligan as they can get.

Hey, welcome to Modern Buddy. I totally echo everything BuddyRaton says above. I'm really glad to hear that your Hooligan can maintain 55+ on level ground already and I suspect that you will get one more MPH when it is fully broken in plus it will probably smooth out a little more. I can't answer your question about the windscreen mount, but I would suggest you post a photo or two that shows the problem clearly. That will help the folks who are familiar with it to help you solve the problem.

All standard reminders about riding gear, training, safety and keeping the rubber side of the machine down apply.

Again, welcome to MB!

I didn't like the idea of drilling my new hooligan so i put my prima medium from my old roughhouse on it with the mirror mounts and it works great

Thanks everyone. I'll try to post some updates from time to time. on rubber side down, safety, etc.

I'll post up some pictures of my windshield problem. My solution worked, but mounting as designed would be helpful.

Yes skully93, the other scooter is a Lance. It's been a champ so far, too. My wife rides hers more than I ride mine and it's been great.

IdahoBuddy, I haven't seen anything about any organized rides yet this year. I've got Scooters of Boise facebooked too. I'll post something up if I see a ride coming.

Great call. It took me awhile.

MrIcky welcome! I just changed my oil today. It's the first time I've done any work on my buddy this year. It was in the 70's today and I'm ready to roll!

I thought these windshields were designed as a 'mirror mount'

KABarash: my windshield was the model for the hooligan ordered from Scooterworks:

You can see in this picture that the mounting bars go underneath the handlebar cowling. The kit comes with posts that are threaded on the end with a plastic sleeve to make a standoff for the clamps for the windshield bars. That post is supposed to go through a hole in the cowling. There is a separate location where there is a screw on the cowling, but that's not the right location. You can see the screw location in this picture.

I turned it into a mirror mount because I gave up and didn't want to start drilling on things. However this made the windshield sit too close to the cowling and it would vibrate against it.

So then I drilled 4 new holes in the windshield that were farther apart than the originals and now all works fine. But it has always bugged me that I didn't set it up like it was designed.

When I opened up the box, I found some markings that this windshield was originally designed for a pgo gmax.

So there's a short story made long for you.
