What's the secret to putting a picture here? Or getting an avatar? Mine are too big. Keeps telling me my avatar is over 16 kb & my pictures are over 800 x 800 pixels. Using a Mac & iPhone 6. Is there some kind of app that can reduce pic resolution? Thx for any help.

This means that you know how to post images, but you don't know how to resize images on a Mac?

Yes. My pics are around 3 mb so it tells me they're too big to use. Or too many megapixels. Using the 12 mp camera in my iPhone 6s.

The Mac must have some app that can resize an image to around 800x600 pixels.

I gave that a try. It keeps inverting my pics. So I turned them upside down & uploaded them. It leaves them upside down. No big deal, wanted an Avatar but it wasn't necessary.

It's hard to believe there isn't an image editing app on the Mac.
