Modern Buddy

Finally decided to paint the scooter. So far its strip down and I'm waiting for the weather to cooperate so I can lay the paint...Goodbye Itailia...

The suspense What color will it be

[And even just that little bit of the Café Racer visible in the background looks good!]

Everything except for the matte green is going to be satin black, If I feel really up to it I might throw in some hot rod scallops, just not sure if I can visaulize scallops with the lines of the buddy. I'm going to have my buddy throw some pinstripes on it and call it "Hellderado" (after just selling my beloved 1960 Cadillac, I have to keep some Cadillac theme).

Man, painting plastic sucks. I Just got done painting some panels and the paint I'm using is making it look like crap (think orange peels), they even said this stuff was made for plastic trim such as bumpers on a car. Maybe I got a crappy can of paint (it has been sitting in my garage for over two months) but I am starting to have second thoughts about this...

Hope you didn't get the Valspar for plastics... I should warn against that.

How did you prep the surface? I think at a minimum you need to completely sand the surface and then clean it to remove all the dust and any oils.

Sand off the crappy coat and try again!

I ended up using some fine steel wool to scuff up the surface, then used the shower to wash the parts clean. I think the can of the paint I got, which was SEM trim black, sucked. I switched to Krylon and its a little better. I guess I'm not all gunho any more about making this look perfect. At first I was contemplating spraying it with our spray gun but decided to forget the hassle of mixing paint and reducer and spray bomb the thing. Its coming out alright, and I figured if I get tired of it I'll paint it again. Hopefully I'll have pic's up this weekend.

Really? I had excellent results with the Valspar Plastic paint. I'm getting ready to try some Krylon on the Blur, but I ran into Mrs Latch who used the exact same color I bought for the Blur and she had not so great results.

I'm holding off for the time being, I like doing these things just once.

Well, maybe it was just the can I got, but the Valspar was doing some funky texturized beading up or something when I was painting my dad's helmet black. I had to sand it off and use something else.

How long did you shake it?

Here's a sneek peek so far...I've got a little more work to do and found some other stuff I want to paint satin black (to soften the lines in the two tone paint) but it's off to the motorcycle flat track races!!!!
