Scavenger Hunt August 2010 Week 2 Signs

Post by Tony M »

This week you need to photograph your scooter with a sign. Points are scored for the number of words on your sign so there's a chance this week for a BIG points score if you can find a sign with lots of words. It can be any kind of sign, business sign, billboard, restaurant menu board, road sign, the choice is yours. However, ONLY ONE SIGN can be used to score on if there are several signs together.

Numbers do not count as words, however to save confusion with times & dates I will rule that any time such as 12:45pm counts as one word whereas a date can only be counted if the day or month is represented as a word not a number as there can be too many different date formats which could be confusing.
ie March 10 2010 counts as one word for March.
Tuesday March 10 2010 is two words, Tuesday & March.
I will accept "&" as a substitute for the word "and" as well as abbreviated words ie "Km" for kilometre

A sign such as
"Opening hours 8am - 4pm"
counts as 4 words

Please include a close up of the sign if it is hard to read in your main photo

Points Scoring
Your scooter in the photo = 5 points
Bonus Points
First person to post their photo = 2 points
Yourself in the photo = 2 points
Each word on your sign = 1 point
Extra signs in your photo = 2 points per sign

If there is more than one sign in your photo please state clearly which one is your Word points scoring sign

Entries close at midnight Sunday 15th August YOUR local time. Please list your own individual points tally for each item included & your total points score with your photo.

General Rules for every week:
-Only one photo may be submitted by each member for each week’s Theme (but if you get a better photo later in the week, POST IT with your new points - PLEASE edit your original post note that you posted a better photo and note in the newer post that it is a replacement for a previous photo.
-Old photos you have can NOT be used - they must be NEW photos taken the week the photo Theme was posted
-No Photoshop submissions
Any questions just PM me
OK now what are you waiting for??? Go & get that photo!!!

I'd like to recognize Pete Waterman, aka "trackpete" in the hunt this week. He's been posting some great photos on his trip to Alaska on his facebook page, and since he's very busy riding several hundred miles a day and evading grizzly bears, I thought he had a good one for this week. Those who've seen his posts know who I'm referring to...

I know it's not valid unless he posts it, but it's still a great photo to share.

Your scooter in the photo = 5 points (his)
First person to post their photo = 2 points
Yourself in the photo = 2 points (him)
Each word on your sign = 1 point x 11 (I think, maybe?)

Pete would get 20 pts!

Great sign & a great pose by Pete. I think he would get bonus points too for reaching maximum scooter carrying capacity.
Only people in Vietnam could fit more than that on a scooter...

Tony, I need a ruling
Is this one sign or is this 12 signs?
(I am ok with it either way because I saw a church sign on the way home with an entire bible verse!!)

OK... I am going with 26 words Including the two "&" (I am not counting the ones obscured by my scoot) + 5pts for my scooter + 2 for first pic in = 33pts

Your scooter in the photo = 5 points
Each word on your sign = 1 point (20 words) 20 points I didn't count the letters USR as a word or the frameless-semi as 2 separate words
Extra signs in your photo = 2 points per sign (Security Warning sign)
Total = 27 points

It's short for wardrobe. I think it's a recent thing to call them that as in my way of thinking a robe is an item of clothing...

Syd finished with big points for this week's hunt which boosts him into a big lead for the monthly total. A big effort will really be needed for the next 2 hunts to topple him from the number 1 position

Congratulations Syd & a big thanks to all participants
