Modern Buddy

Just ordered this 30 min. ago.

Talked to Jack Ashby (Tech / sales at Trail Tech)
about one that would work on the Genuine RH50. ( Would also
work on a Buddy 50, but would look strangely out of place on a classic bike! lol )

He recommended the model # in the link above.

Not sure if anyone else here has installed one before.

I've had a similar, but not identical unit on my Roughhouse for about 2 years. (The same unit served for several years prior to this on a dirt bike.)

I am very pleased with it as it offers accurate speed indication plus a lot of other features.

By the way, I mounted the sensor on a small bracket on the right fork, with the magnet epoxied to the wheel rim (a little silver paint on the magnet makes it hard to see so it doesn't look ugly). On my dirt bike the magnet was epoxied into the front brake disc. But doing this seemed very awkward on the Roughhouse, which is why I chose to mount it differently. I removed the front plastic panel (with headlight) and ran the cable through there. The unit itself is mounted on the right side of the handlebar, using one of the screws that clamps the throttle/switch assembly in place.

That gives me a good general idea as to how to mount
it, although the TT Vapor will be slightly larger display than yours
(Going by you tube reviews seeing it in action)

Funny thing is, I have the identical "mountain bike computer"
on my mountain bike as what you have mounted on yours.

Had I not wanted a tachometer, I would have re-purposed it. LOL

I'm sure you'll enjoy having it, and the tach would be cool to have. Let us know how the install goes. By the way, I believe the small bracket that my sensor mounts to is the only piece I had to fab. And it's just flat aluminum with a couple of holes. Very simple.

I just went and looked... I also made a small simple bracket to extend from the throttle housing screw up to a height where I could screw on the unit's mount.

These things are tough. Mine survived my torturous use on a Honda XR250 for many off-road miles before 'retiring' to the Roughhouse.
