Wondering about my Geniune Mechanic (2013 Blur)

Post by HanShan »

I bought my Blur into my dealer today to see if they could find out about my rough idle and my after fire. At first he said it might be the carb is fouled with ethanol (Blur's do not have a carb) and that they need to spend at most 1.5 hours looking to diagnose the issue (That could cost up to $120 before anything was fixed).

I told him I was broke and he said he could charge $20 for a tech to look at it. The tech sat on it for a bit and said he heard no after fire and that the rough idle was "not a problem" and that I should come back if things get worse. He said it could be an air leak or something that is making it run lean. I told him that the plug looked too clean, like white, and he said that is normal because I have a fuel injector. That did not make sense to me either.

This all did not sound right to me, and I am wondering if if sounds right to you. Since, from what I read, a lean running bike could result in engine seizure.

IMHO, the Blur motor normally runs rough at idle. Mine has always been rough(~10k on the clock now). If you want to feel something smooth in a similar size, try a Vespa 200GT.

I can't really comment seeing how the engine in my Blur is a bit north of stock...
Some people can break a crowbar in a sandbox.

Yeah, just did not know if it is an issue or not. All my other bikes were really steady so...

Just not going to worry about it. Thanks.

Just wish I could know why I have the afterfire, which is a new development.

2000 miles this summer and still runs rough some days. Definitely does not like mornings south of 60 degrees and doesn't like afternoons north of 90 degrees. Sputtters, belches, backfires at random on most days and I've just accepted it as the bike has a naughty personality. It certainly does not complain when I'm running 65mph down the road.

Yeah, I found the Blur is like me; Not happy unless moving somewhere.

On that note, hoping to take it out west next spring...
