Why is the Blur forum so quiet?

As the hottest scoot Genuine sells, you'd think there would be more activity here. I realize that the Buddy is the least expensive and the Stella has the retro appeal but the Blur really is in a class by itself.[/i]

I've wondered that myself. Maybe since there aren't as many aftermarket parts to change out... there isn't much to discuss. I just know I'm very happy with mine and would love to look into modding it if it were beneficial.

I suspect that bone stock would be fine with me, maybe a little something to help it breathe freer but that's about it. Your reported mileage on Fuelly sure looks good.

I wonder what the out-the door price would be? The Genuine site lists MSRP as 4k but also warns of dealer prep, etc.

My hard drive crashed so all the info i have managed to amass over the past few weeks is GONE. :evil:

Basically it's because the U.S. is about 25 years behind the rest of the world when it comes to scooters and unfortunately, a lot of other things too. If you ask your typical American what a scooter is, they'll most likely describe something vintage looking like a Vespa or Lambretta. They will have no idea what a "sports" scooter is. What they don't realize is that the majority of the scooters riden elsewhere in the world are modern designs with sports bike like handling and braking. You'd be amazed at how many people tell me they've never seen a scooter like my Blur. They think it's something brand new but they're even more amazed when I tell them the design is something that's been around for at least 25 years in other parts of the world.

I started several threads when I was considering my Blur, and bumped several when I first started riding. I was monopolizing the forum!

I'm still praying for better MPG, though I think my Fuelly indicates what "LA City Traffic" really does to your mpg. Ouch.... And I'm still thinking about some LEDs like berg and Dave, but I have no mechanical skills so I'd need everything done at a shop. I guess with most of my riding being commuting, I can't really enjoy or get much benefit out of performance mods, which is why I'm leaning towards a few aesthetic ones.

Out riding? Every time I jump on my Blur, I love it more. It's just a great package... too bad it's not incredibly popular. Then again, rare is it's own reward 8)

When I went to a Bike Night some months back, there were people there installing kits on the spot, during the event. I assume it's not a big deal to do it if you know how.

I'm not sure where exactly one would install lights like that on the Blur.
It wouldn't do me much good here since they're not legal to use while in motion, anyway.

^^^ Just a note from a bike mechanic. Many of those install while you wait guys are serious hacks. I hated to see a bike done at the local bike show come in on my lift. Some of those guys install them properly, but many don't. The wires are everywhere and worse yet you can work on the bike until you remove all their crappy work...So, beware the crappy install job :)

I added LED tag bolt lights to the rear of my Stella for just a bit more "notice" going down the road at night.

I wasn't born with mechanical skills either, nor the ability to walk, or write, or ride a bicycle, or.... :wink:

I'm not surprised. Even if they were good at it, the conditions were less than optimum, included the number done in the allotted time. Where does one get these tag bolt lights, do you wire them to the taillights and, lastly, I assume those would be legal to use if red?

I wish I was a bike mechanic. Then again, I also wish I had learned to play the electric guitar, speak Spanish, and weld.

I got them thru a friends motorcycle shop. They were a "drag specialties" part. Any bike shop should be able to get them. Just look up tag lights bolts in a Parts Unlimited catalog. It came with 4 in a pack, it was 12 bucks I think. Its a red LED in the center of the bolt head, comes pre wired, you could use them on anything.

I have pretty much no tools.
I have no space to work on it (apartment complex in LA).
I don't have a natural inclination for wrenching.

I'm happier paying for it to be done by others. Especially as the only work I'm interested in are messing with the deadlights, and _maybe_ adding some LED lighting. Servicing will already be at a shop. The overall cost (especially including time investment) doesn't make it worth it for me.

In short, I'm a microbiologist, I ain't good with big things :P I know some people love to tinker and do it all by hand, but I'm better at tinkering with microscopes. I'm also still working on trying to learn how to read :(

I keep my hands out of engines and off of carburetors but the lighter tasks are no big deal, for the most part. This one seems like something I could handle. Thankfully, I live in the country and have a shed as well as a fair selection of tools. Bought a torque wrench a few years ago because I was pretty sure that if I didn't, I would either lose my oil drain plug or worse, strip the aluminum threads. But I digress.

I have read that if you replace, say, all your tailights and indicators with LEDs that the load is reduced from the draw required for incandescents and some electronic load reducer of some sort must be inline somewhere.

Since this particular mod is a minor addition, I would assume no such is needed.

Replacing the brake light with an LED should require no adapters: whatever current they draw, they draw - doesn't affect anything else. When you substitute LEDs for the turn signals, however, their reduced current draw may not play well with the flasher device. So, you'd need a replacement flasher made specifically for LEDs.
