Vacuum fuel shut off

Do they ever actually shut fuel flow off? Changing the jet on my 2024 buddy 50 I noticed fuel would continue to flow from the hose. I ended up raising the hose up above fuel level to stop it (limited tools at home, didn’t even have a zip tie)

Yep, if there is no suction, there should be no fuel flow. Ethanol eats the crap out of the petcock. A drop or two is normal. If you have a steady trickle, the petcock is bad.

Thing only has 700 miles on it to. Is there a manual shut off valve available as a direct replacement?

Though $50 for a fuel tap seems a bit much. There are lots of them available in different sizes, I'm currently trying to find out what size the threads are on the Buddy's tank. AI says M14x1.25 but I don't trust AI very much.

I wouldn't use it. Seems like a pain in the ass. The vacuum operated petcocks are really quite reliable.

Thanks! That was exactly what I was looking for. I'm used to using a manual valve on my motorcycles, so this won't be much of a change. It will be good for storage as well as maybe a little bit of theft deterrence.

oddly, when I went to restart the scooter the carb was dry and I had to crank it. maybe its not leaking after all. I only use Non Ethanol in this scooter. e10 is fine in my fuel injected Piaggio

For the past 4 years I use Ethanol free 87 in everything I own including my 1991 Ford Ranger. Watch the video from Project Farm on Ehanol in fuel and additives that are supposed to combat it.

How much fuel leaked out? I am often surprised how much fuel there is in the line between the carb and the petcock.
Also, if it's a 2024 wouldn't it still be under warranty?

It would be. I’ve changed enough parts on this thing i don’t think there is much warranty left. Also, riding or transporting this 60 miles away is to much work. It took me 4hrs to ride it home. The amount I would need to pay for service at the dealer I could probably buy a used engine, or whatever I needed for less.

anyone ever just install a fuel shut off valve on the fuel line?...the autocock mounted to the tank may keep the fuel from draining out of the tank but it doesn't keep it from gumming up the carb...was thinking of starting to shut off the scooter similar to how i shut off my snow blower...shut off the fuel and let it starve out

I got a manual valve kit from scooter911. Overall it was a compete kit with everything you need. I was disappointed with the filter and hose provided though. I know rubber hoses can stretch but, the hoses provided were way too small. I re used my old hoses and filter, they only have a thousand miles on them anyway.

I installed a small manual shut off, on my '05 Concours years ago. To prevent gas leaking into the cylinders, causing hydrolocking.
It worked the many years I owned the bike. The problem with doing that on a Buddy is that the fuel lines are hidden.
A new vacuum shut off shouldn't cost too much

this is mine installed. re used the factory hoses, used the supplied cap for the manifold vacuum
