kick start for the 170i buddy

Post by tonelar »

can a 170i be converted to kickstart like the 125 and 150 models? i’m considering doing another cannonball with a lighter weight scooter. i completed this year’s with a 279cc scooter and felt it was too much in size and weight.

Yes, all you need is the CVT cover from a 125/150 with the kickstarter. I know people on here have done it before.

I added a kick start to my 170i, it was swapped from a 125. Like scootErik said you need a CVT cover with the started lever. There is also the crown shaped piece that goes at the end of the crankshaft that engages with the kick start mechanism in the cover. This crown piece is splined in the inside to lock into the crank and has outward facing teeth to engage the kick start mechanism. It is sandwiched between the variator and the outer nut. My 170 a had thick washer in place of this piece that kept everything spaced correctly on the crank.
