Post by Jesusfreakrider »

Probably been asked a billion times but here we go. Just bought my wife a 2022 Buddy 125. What oil do yall suggest for oil change. For my Kymco Like150 i use Motul 5100 4T 15W-50. This this would be ok for the Buddy?

PGO specifies 15w-40 Oil with a JASO designation of MB.

I use Shell Rotella® T4 15W-40 - https://rotella.shell.com/en_us/product ... ction.html

At this point it seems like the Buddy 125 will run on just about any oil you put in it. But a quick search says the Motul oil you use is JASO MA and Genuine recommended JASO MB so if you did have an issue Genuine could void your warranty since you didn't use the correct oil. See page 19 of the owners manual - http://genuinescooters.com/wp-content/u ... Manual.pdf

Well after a little research it would appear that the Shell Rotella 4t oil might not be JASO MB rated. So it wouldn't work for Buddies that are still under warranty. Looking at the old owner's manuals Genuine use to say 15w-40 with no rating. So sometime in the last few years they went to the JASO MB rating(probably when they started selling their Genuine brand motor oil.)

I just researched this very topic to change our oil and found that diesel oils (most 15w40 found are) need to have an API "S" rating to be suitable for gasoline engines. In regards to the Shell Rotella 4T, it does not have that rating. There is a Valvoline and a Mobil (not Mobil One) diesel oil that has "S"n rating and that is what I used this time around.
