Issues with buddy 170i in high throttle

Post by enzomatik »

I'm having issues with losing power intermittently at high throttle as shown in this video
https://youtu.be/wJVHqbqHYHI
My plan of attack is to try these things in order until something works
Run new fuel through it with perhaps some fuel injector cleaner
Flush fuel line
replace fuel filter
replace air filter
Rebuild CVT just in case it's that
replace fuel pump
give up and buy a bus pass

Is there anything I should add to my list? Should anything be in a different order? Has anyone seen this before and know what's going on?
-thanks

Have you tried resetting the ECU?
Here are some instructions

"reset the throttle position sensor. Disconnect the battery, and turn on the ignition to clear any remaining juice from the ecu. Turn ignition back off, and reinstall the battery.

Now, reset the throttle position sensor using the following steps.

Hold throttle at wide open position (full throttle)
Turn ignition key on, while holding throttle.
Wait for engine light to turn off.
Turn ignition off.
Release throttle
Start as per usual."

plot thickens, there's a bunch of motor oil behind the air filter in the air box

Make sure your oil level isn't too high. This has happened to me before. I overfilled and oil was getting sucked into my airbox and what a mess.

ok my oil level is a bit over the top of the limit on the dip stick, any chance that could cause what I'm seeing?

Wait, could the noise/ intermittent power reduction be a rev limiter kicking in?
Also I noticed that the speedo wasn't working, I haven't had a chance to take off the top of the handlebars and check the connection but I don't think it's part of the issue since the speedo is just connected to the front wheel IIRC. ( I remember that being true when I had my old 125)
---oh and also what size connection does our spark plug have, I want to borrow a compression gauge but they only have the 14mm &15mm attachment?

Anyways so far here's what I've done/ checked
Replaced fuel with new fuel
Ran seafoam through the system
Replaced Air Filter, Cleaned Airbox
Checked all Fuel lines (including the vapor system)
Reduced oil level to 1/2 way up the stick
Checked/ Cleaned air intake pressure sensor
checked fuel pressure
checked filter in tank
Checked intake valve (cleaned some soot around it)
Checked CVT
