Question: Buddy 50 silent when coasting to a stop

Post by pnorber2 »

Hi All,

I bought a used buddy that had sat a while. After a carb clean, new gas, new filter, spark plug, etc… I’m still struggling to get it to run. I plan to check the float height and needle soon and might just replace the carb. But I want to ask this specific question:

Why would my scooter make no idle noise as it comes to a stop? Once stopped the idle seems to come on, but the scooter is basically silent as it decelerates unless I pull the throttle. Wouldn’t the piston keep pulling fuel and the plug keep sparking? I can hear it run during deceleration on my other (perfect) buddy 50.

Thanks!

Oh yes, the engine keeps running, if your 50s are identical, I'm stumped ☹ it might be that it's quiet enough under no load that the road noise is louder? My 400 is pretty quiet under decel, rackety when you gas it.
