Modern Buddy

Is there any significant difference between the engine in the Urbano 200i and Buddy170i?
Both are air cooled, have EFI and similar displacement.

I did notice that the 200i has a kickstarter, according to the Genuine website. That is one big difference.

That might be a mistake, at least based on the pictures the 200i doesn't have a kickstarter but the 50cc version does. The 200i version also has "· 12" Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI)" so I think someone was in a hurry when they added this scooter to the website.

Just going by the pictures it has a different CVT cover and airbox than the Buddy 170 or Hooligan 170. Looking at the other side of the engine the Urbano has a different exhaust, but that might just be a cost/looks change. But the intake for the air cooling fan looks different too. Just going by the pictures on Genuine's website I would guess this is a different engine, but I could be wrong.

I asked Genuine the same question. Here is their reply:
“ The Buddy 170 and the Urbano 200 do not have the same motor. The Urbano 200 makes significantly more power and torque than the Buddy 170. Rear wheel peak horsepower on an Urbano is 10.5 HP versus the Buddy 170 at 7 HP. The Urbano has a much larger chassis with a higher seat height, longer wheel base and more room for both passengers. Urbano 200 has dual disc brakes. Buddy 170 has only front disc brake.”

The Buddy 170 only has 7 hp at the back wheel? I find that surprising, as others have posted much higher figures.

I have a hard time believing the 170 only has 7 horsepower. If it only has 7 hp it is using that horsepower really well. I thought the Buddy 125 had 9.5 hp, the 150 had ~.5-1 hp more and the 170i had another .5-1 hp more. And I think the Buddy Kick 125 is listed at 11 hp. Unless those numbers are "at the crank." But that would mean the CVT and final drive on the Buddies are really inefficient.

I've seen no video reviews at all for the Urbano 200i.
I'd like to see at least someone review one.

Who makes the Urbano? 168.9cc tagged as a 200.... Why not just call it what it is?

A friend and I were curious, so we stopped at our local dealer. The "Made in China" sticker made me think it isn't PGO that made it. I didn't crawl all over the bike looking for tags to confirm that. It is higher in the seat height department, and the 12" wheels probably make it more smooth. We pressed the sales guy for more info and he admitted it wasn't a comfortable at higher speeds like a Buddy Kick. We were not offered a test ride, as it was later in the day and the Urbano bikes were not prepped for the road.

The fuel tank is under the seat which takes up some storage space. The glove box opens straight out with no shelf to catch your belongings. Anything placed in there will just fall out.

I'm glad Genuine is offering this bigger, faster scoot.
I just dont understand how they expect the dealers to sell them without providing more information about them.
The secrecy about the Urbano 200 may cause buyers to walk out of the Genuine dealer and buy a Kymco.

I wonder how long it's going to be before we start to see some reviews on the Urbano 200i.

This scooter reeks of the first generation Kymco Like 200i which left a lot to be desired. I predict you will end up with a scooter that has 5mph more on the top end than a Buddy 125 without anywhere near the reliability and longevity.
