Buddy 50... Exhaust Pair Delete?

When upgrading the exhaust on the Buddy 50, do you need to plug the hole coming from the motor that goes to the exhaust valve?

I'm thinking I'll use a short hose with a plug, but not sure if there's a better method.

Is it a pair system?
