Does the kickstarter have to be removed from it's shaft to pull the belt/CVT cover off? Anything else I need to know before removing the left cover? I ordered a new left cover gasket in the the event the original one gets messed up in the removal process.

Thanks!

You don't need the gasket under the CVT cover. I have removed mine with the first CVT cleaning on my Buddies.

You will want to have a rubber mallet handy to give the cover a few hits to knock it loose.

Followup: I had no issues removing the belt cover today and replacing the complete clutch/pulley assembly with a new one due to a faulty pulley bearing. I did replace the old belt cover gasket with a new one because both the electric and kickstarter linkage/mechanisms are located in the belt cover and the gasket acts like a shim. It may be fine without it, but for the extra $15 it cost me for a new gasket, it just wasn't worth the risk.
