Rear brake on fire

I have a 2016 Buddy 50. I know some basics including how to adjust the rear brake. It seams like I've had nothing but problems since my purchase in February. My ex had his buddy for years and never a problem. Today my rear brake literally caught fire. Took a couple minutes for the smoke to dissipate and then the bike did not want to start AT ALL. I've had issues starting essentially since I got it but this was different wouldn't turn over nothing. Thoughts?

Were there flames? Was it smoke coming from the rear hub?
It could be the rear brake, particularly if it was over tightened, then run for a while (though you'd likely have noticed all the resistance?). Could be in the CVT (Belt? Clutch?) or the final drive (was there gear oil in it?)

Is it still under warranty? Get it to the dealer.

Ah, maybe not. How are you adjusting your rear brake? Why would you need to adjust it very often? And what would be the connection between adjustment of the rear brake and whether the engine will start?
As Syd commented, it may be time for an experienced mechanic to take a look at the scooter.
