Frankensteined Rattler 110 retrofit into buddy chasis

Post by Meis »

So I have been playing around with modifying my buddy 50 to eek some more power out of it so I am not running it on the ragged edge all of the time. I have thought about kitting the motor to a 70cc displacement using the Malossi kit and the tossing in the NCY tranny kit and rejetting and then I had a different idea, swapping in a different engine altogether.

I thought about a GY6 or a buddy 150 motor but I would really rather keep it 2 stroke so I am liking the rattler 110 swap idea.

Other than buying a rattler and swapping it like has been done here on the forum what are my options? Is it possible to get just the engine components and bolt them up to the buddy's crankcases?

I guess the short and skinny of it is that I was a big 2 stroke motor in my buddy

I have not seen that swap before, but the idea intrigues me.

I suppose, but if you find a Rattler 110 that is a runner - why not just ride it?

I did an admittedly very cursory search for the terms "rattler" and "buddy" and didn't see anything on the forum that popped up on page 1 of my search results for someone changing out a Buddy Engine in favor of a Rattler engine. Keep in mind, that if it was done in the past the modification might actually have been a Rattler 50 engine (not the 110cc engine) which is basically a Roughhouse 50cc engine as I understand it. The engines between the Buddy 50cc and the Roughhouse 50, Rattler 50, and Black Cat 50 are effectively the same minus the length of the case. They are interchangeable from what I understand, barring that the bigger rear tire associated with the Rattler 50/RH 50/BC 50 might not fit under the Buddy (and I ASSUME the 12" rear of the Rattler 110 almost definitely wouldn't fit). I agree with Dooglas that if you can find a working Rattler 110 engine then it will probably be attached to a rideable Rattler 110. For the cost and effort involved in buying a working engine and doing an installation on your Buddy 50cc, you should just buy a working used Rattler or Buddy 125+ instead if you need more power/speed.

For your enjoyment! I can source engine components cost effectively for the rattler 110 so my main concern is seeing if it bolts up to the buddy 50s crankcase or not.

I stand corrected then (it isn't the first time and it certainly won't be the last time ;-)). From where are you sourcing the engine?
