Modern Buddy

My Hooligan 170i with 2500 miles still has the original tires on it. Maxxis 120/70/12 in front and 130/70/12 in the rear. I have never felt that they get adequate traction on curves and corners and am thinking of replacing them. Since I am a relative newbie to riding I would like to see some discussion and maybe some recommendations on tires.

What kind of riding do you do? Surface streets, highway, gravel... Are you an aggressive rider, or do you try to see how many miles you can get out of a tank of gas or a set of tires?

What are you looking to get out of new tires? You mentions better cornering. Any other desires?

Hi paracer thanks for the reply.... No I am not an aggressive driver, I am a retired person who rides for the fun of it. I ride mainly on surface streets and paved country roads that are not always in the best condition. Having said that, I will take traction over mileage any day.

Check out the Michelin Power Pures. I think they also offer the City Grips for scooters. I've run the former on my Yager for over 4K miles and they're quite grippy and are far more confidence inspiring than the OE Maxxis tires I had. The modern Vespa crown uses the same size tires as you and they're quite fond of them.

I'm running Michelin Pilot Sport SC on my Blur and love them. They have way more traction and are confidence inspiring when compared to the original Maxxis tires. 130/60-13 in front and 140/60-13 in the rear. But, they're not the greatest in the rain, particularly on wet, painted crosswalk lines and such.

City Grips are a good match for the Hooligan.

I am also a big fan of City Grips. I am running them on most of my rides. Running a pair of Power Pures on my Aprilia at the moment. Also a good tire with traction in the corners.
