Rear Shock Upgrade (Buddy 125)

I want to upgrade my rear shock on my Buddy 125. I'm about 240lbs and the roads in Boston are terrible. I'm not necessarily looking for high speed performance improvements rather just a smoother ride and something that will absorb the bumps better. I'm considering the 3 YSS Performance Rear Shock at the $59, $159 and $229 price points. Any thoughts on what shock will fit my needs best????

The YSS brand shocks are great quality for the price. I have the "low down" rear shock on the Buddy 125 and it made a huge difference in comfort. Its the base model, just 5 clicks on spring tension adjustable. The original shock was worn out from salty blast during winter treated roads. Also used YSS in the past on a Yamaha Vino 50cc and the Buddy 125 that I sold, both still working great.

Thanks for the reply! Was it difficult to install the new shock? Is it something I can do at home without any special tools???

Scooterworks used to sell a cushy YSS shock but it's no longer available. The other ones I've ridden are performance shocks, aka stiff. :(

I saw that Scooterworks no longer sold the YSS brand. I got mine from a brick-n-mortar awhile back, and the price was very fair compared to the internet and it had a white spring instead of black or red. Easy to install with basic tools, just have a extra set of hands handy to help line everything up.

you need 11" or 280mm hole to hole. This is a great shock for the money:

I have the $59 one, set at 1 click down from max stiff. That $159 model looks nice though. Not a fan of the piggy back system as used on the #229 one, as I have seen some of them leak from hard use.

The middle one above is what I have on my 170i.
Great upgrade to the stock damper.
