Modern Buddy

I am going to buy a half helmet for the summer time. my modular is just too hot. but I am wondering what kind of eye protection you guys/girls are wearing. i will never go too fast on my RH50 , but my Oakley Gascans don't work very well. not a big fan of the foam lined stuff either as I sweat like a pig(and this is New Orleans and it gets HOT) so if you would enlighten me on a few eyewear options I would be most appreciative. Thanks

Ditto on what syd said. Impact resistant glasses. For a couple dollars a pair you can get them in clear as well as various shades. that way, you have a variety to use depending on conditions, and your not out a ton of money when you accidently step on em, drop them, run them over, lose them, or they become scratched up.

I got a cheap pair of clear plastic safety glasses that fit over my eyeglasses. Blocks the wind so my eyes don't burn & tear up over 30 mph. Found them at Home Depot but you can find them at Lowe's, Amazon, Walmart, anyplace that sells tools.

I use a 3/4 helmet with an eyeshield, plenty cool. Nolan N20

I use a Bell 500 with a bubble shield. I'm in New Orleans as well so I know how hot it can get. This allows the wind to not hurt your eyes but you still get a bunch of airflow.

I wear a 1/2 helmet with MC goggles designed for us eyeglass wearers. The 1/2 helmet also fits nicely over my hearing aids whereas I have to remove them if I wear my 3/4 helmet with plastic visor.

I use glasses designed for mountain biking. They probably look dorky but they vent well and don't fog up.

Not to make you uncomfortable, physically or psychologically, but a recent article in Citybike (San Francisco monthly motorbike newspaper) noted that the highest incidence of full helmet scuffing after crashes was on the chin. The data came from a German study.
I may not have a handsome chin, but I like it!
FWIW, Dale Earnhardt died from his chin being pushed into his neck (okay maybe TMI here!).
BTW, I find a wet scull covering balaclava to be quite helpful for staying cooler. Yes, it's good when the humidity is probably below ~30%.

Oakley Radar Lock custom in matt black, black socks on black with black iridium lenses cause I ride a 2014 Matt Black Buddy.

My wife rides with whatever pink pair she grabs, generally Radar Lock, definitely Oakley.

I only ride with a full face helmet. Finding glasses that fit in the thin sunglass gap between the foam padding inserts is often difficult. I always look for sunglasses that have thin and flexible temple arms. That isn't easy to do with today's styles which seem to favor a thick and fat temple arm. I've had past luck with Nike, Suncloud, Tifosi, and Scattante (Performance Bike brand).

old school avaitors have wire thin temples

Prescription lenses in Nike frames. The lenses darken in the sunshine.

I have Bobsters (non-padded) when I have my contacts in.
I just got a pair of perscrition googles online but I haven't had a chance to test them out.

I use them while on my scooter and on my road bike and I like that they keep the cold air off my eyes and are convex enough to stop my eyelashes from hitting the lenses - I have long eyelashes apparently. I like them so much that I bought a pair in tinted and clear.

You're probably right... I wear mine with a peruvian cop disguise.

I alternate between a pair of 3M 11872 & 11873. The gaskets keep drafts & random debris from my eyes and they fit well at the temples with my helmet. Purchased online, but they're available at most Home Depots.
