Replace Buddy 50 exhaust pipe?
My Buddy 50 exhaust pipe snapped at the head near where it is bolted into the bottom of the engine.
I called my local shop but the stock exhaust and muffler assy is nearly $400. That's crazy. He said my only other option is to get the Prima Performance type.
Now I've seen threads on here discussing the Prima pipes so I know they fit but...this scooter is used for transportation only like running errands. I don't care about noise, power or more speed. I just need it to work. I don't want to fool around upjetting anything or messing with the carburator.
Do I have to upjet the carb? The websites say I do, but I don't see why if I don't care about performance.
Also, does anyone know of any alternatives to the Prima or any other exhaust system that will currently fit the Buddy50?
I've never had problems getting parts like this before. This is astonishing that it is so hard to find this part.

Couldn't get it for free, but you're right. I never thought to look there. I started calling up several scooter shops and found one that had a couple on hand. The guy said that people buy scooters and want an exhaust upgrade right away. He asks if they want to keep the stock pipe and they tell him to throw it away. Obviously, he's not going to do that but he had them lying around and sold me one for $175.lovemysan wrote:My dealer has a pallet full of stock but used 50cc pipes. I've gotten several free ones. Should be able to pick one up for less than $50.
My only concern at the moment is that this pipe is labeled for a Roughhouse 50. I know the Roughhouse has the same engine as the Buddy so I hope everything lines up. The only difference we could find is that this exhaust pipe lacks a piece of metal that holds onto the mud flap...optional though. I should be able to live without it.

I thought the Roughhouse and Buddy used the same engine but it looks like the head of the muffler is aimed slightly differently so the bolts on the side were off by about a half inch.
I was able to fix it by fashioning a mounting bracket and adding a muffler strap but it is definitely more work.
Funny thing is, the mechanics who sold it to me swear that the pipes are interchangeable and they do it all the time.

The pipes are very similar. Mounting holes should line up though. I've interchanged my prima pipe from an r50 to a buddy. It's a bolt on off then on proposition. Don't feel bad about having to buy the pipe in areas where there is road salt they are in higher demand.
