Modern Buddy

I didn't ride my Buddy to work today because I needed to go to a meeting at a paving job site during the day. The site was within scooter range of my office and I didn't need my truck to carry tools or equipment. I just wasn't comfortable scooting to a construction site. Those guys all ride Harleys, Shadows and V-Stars.
What places do you avoid taking the scooter?

I'll take my scooter (also a Buddy) anywhere and any place that I can safely park it and it doesn't require me to ride it on a freeway/expressway to get there. I have yet to meet a Harley or other MC rider who was intimidating or threatening in any way. They've all been friendly and even curious about my scooter asking lots of questions. One Harley guy even said "Hey, I've got to me one of those!"

"Bike Night" at the local blue collar watering hole. In 21 years I really can not remember seeing any scooters there. If there are any scooters there I am sure they do not take the choice parking spots.

Anywhere where traffic is heavy. I do not enjoy riding with a lot of cars around.

Never the interstate, of course.

But I can usually find a back road to just about any place.

Oh, and I ride to the Harley store up the street all the time. They seem to like the little scoots too!

On the freeway. Other than that I'll scoot anywhere...

In all my riding around Michigan (etc).....

I've never taken my scooter to Mackinac Island, because vehicles with motors are prohibited there. (I left it at the dock and walked.)

I've never taken my scooter to Isle Royale, because vehicles with wheels are prohibited there. (I left it at the dock and hiked.)

I've never taken my scooter into Detroit, because I don't enjoy dealing with big-city traffic. (I rode around it.)

I've never taken my scooter across an international bridge, because it inevitably includes a lot of time in stop-and-go traffic above the water I'm not comfortable with heights. (I took a ferry into Ontario and back instead.)

I've never taken my scooter to the laundromat, because it only has room for one small load of laundry. (I load up the car.)

And I've never taken my scooter on snow- or ice-covered roads, because I don't like falling. (I winterize the bike and drive the car.)

The local biker bar, elitists in my opinon.

I have two theaters near my home but I don't scoot to the movies. The thieves know they have two hours to defeat my locks.

I won't say "never again", but I will say that I was pretty darn scared riding these five miles the first time (especially since the only lane open was the metal grate), the second time was still a bit nerve-wracking, and for my third crossing with the scooter the 30mph crosswind convinced me to get a pick-up-truck ride from the Mackinac Bridge Authority.

I won't ride anywhere I think I might be at risk of a scooterjacking or getting my bike stolen.

I also try to avoid driving into rotaries that revolve around a highway or through cloverleaf interchanges which connect to the highway.

I will NOT ride to the mall under any circumstances. Too many 'nut jobs' in the parking lots...!!!

Call me overly cautious, but I never ride mine in the house.

the wife hates competition. Seriously, up here in Paradise, CA, the quickest route to nearby Chico is on the Skyway, a ten mile romp down a steep hill where the top speed limit is posted at 55 mph. I drive it regularly in my Escape SUV, and swear my speedo must be off, get passed by little old ladies in Buick LeSabres. With my 125 Buddy's ten inch tires and a top speed (comfortable for me) of 50, not gonna do it. Wouldn't be prudent.

Anywhere that I can't lock it to something. Unattended little bikes have a tendency to disappear around here.

Anywhere that I can't attain the minimum legal speed limit. With 75mph highway speed limits here, only the P200, the Riva 180 and the Yager GT200i get highway duty.
