Long ride ahead...at least for me.

Post by Tenchi »

Up here in Paradise, CA, they have what they call "Chocolate Thunder" ride during their chocolate weekend in May. The ride covers about 70 miles, some highway, some county roads, and ends up with a nice barbeque. I bought a used Kymco Grand Vista with 8000 on the odometer recently (as I have stated in earlier posts) and I decided to get the full service at the local Kymco/Suzuki dealership in nearby Chico. Was quoted about $300, which would cover all the fluid changes, including coolant and brakes (dual discs), and POSSIBLY a new belt. I can hear some rattling under the cover when I start her up, and think the belt might be near replacement. Should I have anything else checked out? I have 150 miles on the Michelin Powersports, and they grip like no tomorrow. Thanks in advance.

The rattling you hear at idle is either the natural sound of the clutch or worn variator guides.

Either way, if you do much WOT highway travel, I'd get the belt, rollers and guides changed. Belts can last quite a bit longer if you're cruising around town, but on the highway they are subjected to much more heat and should be replaced when the factory calls for it.

I thought there was something wrong with my Kymco People 250 because it had a "rattle".
It turned out it was just resonance in the exhaust. It has a natural banging sound, much like a loose drive system.
