The sticker on the back of one vehicle indicated 45 kph, which is about 28 MPH. I wouldn't be surprised if it could hit that speed on a level surface with proper gearing, but I suspect it would a LONG time to get there. That, by itself, could make it a rolling roadblock and create a safety hazard. At least you can get around a bicycle or moped, but a very slow moving vehicle the size of a small can block an entire lane.
Might be OK in a crowded city like Amsterdam, but would be poorly suited to America's roads.

Some people are like slinkies. They're not very interesting, but they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Those little cars travel neighborhood speeds, so it seems electric propulsion would make more sense. The 50cc powered car would hold a huge range advantage over an electric one, but I wouldn't want to want to travel too far at 28mph.
It would be cool if somebody built such a car with a 50cc engine and an electric boost motor with batteries. Electric motor would be used only during acceleration, like the Honda CRZ.
