voltage regulator for buddy 125 questions

Post by friendlynerd »

My 2006 Buddy 125 ate the new headlight I put in right away, so I tested the voltage coming out at the headlight socket. It was about 15 at idle but it shot up to over 40 when I twisted the throttle! No wonder it burned out.

I assume I need a new voltage regulator but I have 2 questions:

1. Is there any danger in running the bike until I get the new one (aside from not having a headlight)

2. Will any old GY6 regulator work? This one looks identical and I can get it fast via Amazon Prime. http://www.amazon.com/Rectifier-139qmb- ... +regulator

Thanks!

When my regulator went Out first it ate my headlight, then my pilot light, and continued to eat my dashboard lights. So I no wouldn't recommend running it more than necessary

Dont know about PA, but here in WA, no headlight would make your scooter illegal and likely to get a ticket.

Hi friendlynerd - did you end up ordering the part from Amazon and, if so, how did it work out for you? I'd love to not spend $30 on this part.
