Vibrating throttle stem and plastic headset

Post by VBCtoStella »

Does anyone have any experience with the entire plastic headset vibrating noisily when the throttle handle is let go of at stoplights, for example? That small amount of space/play around the throttle stem/handle seems to be whats causing it. A very loud and obnoxious rattling, especially considering I just took delivery of this 09 Stella a month ago. The other issue I wanted to ask all you veterans about is disconnecting that annoying beeper from the turn signals. I realize it offers a good safety feature, but I find I'd rather do without it. Noticed in the manual that it looks like the steering column cover comes off somehow, but don't really get it, and don't want to damage anything. Any suggestions? I had been riding a restored 66 Vespa VBC for the last five years, and I must say, I did like the spring-loaded saddle on that bike, made for a smoother ride, at least in SOME ways. Great forum, any insights would be greatly appreciated.

that other post is 3 days old and your is only a few hours old

i dont know about the vibration issue
but at only a month old why not just complain to your dealer
i know they vibrate hell i see it in my mirrors and my cht guage

but you have to remove the badge to get to the screws and i belive you start by prying up on the right side as you look at the badge
i think there is a how too about doing the beeper over on stella speed

Mine's an 02 and may not be the same, but there's a volume control on the switch under the cover. I have mine cranked because I'm just that annoying. It's a one-screw deal.

I am sure that you have found the fix for this on Stellaspeed, but just in case. Your throttle tube is vibrating. While being totally normal it is also totally annoying. You need to add a small spacer between the throttle tube and where it fits into the head set. MAKE SURE that when you put a spacer in (I made mine from a wire coathanger) that the throttle snaps back to the full closed position.

Thanks for the helpful tips. As for the throttle tube, was thinking about using a foam or neophrene ring. But the noise seems to come from where the metal of the tube enters the plastic. There's some play there. Kind of an annoying design flaw that it would make so much noise. On another subject, I became excited when I saw the how-to on here for adjusting the shock preload, but then I went out to check my shocks and it would appear the 09 stellas don't have the adjustable sebacs. My front shock is embossed with, "escort", and has a black, not red, spring. I also snipped out that piezo speaker from the turn signal loop, and regret it already, as I've already forgotten to turn my signals off a few times. Gonna check for that volume switch and splice it back in. May just have to put some gaffers tape over it. Thanks for the helpful info, all.
