Looking for mesh motorcycle jacket

Post by sbebenelli »

I'm looking for a mesh motorcycle jacket for warm weather. I'm wanting one that has a bright a color in it for visibility. I'd also like to keep it under $100 if I could. I've searched the internet and can't seem to find one that is "bright" like I'm looking for. I prefer green to somewhat go with my scooter. What are reputable motorcycle stores online I could look at?

Those are just a few that i can think of right now.

You should also do a search for "mesh jacket" here (make sure to check"search for all terms") and sift through that.

Try Craigslist. I scored a Firstgear MeshTex II silver jacket, used twice, sat in a closet for 4 months before he sold it for $45 cash. Retail is still 80-120 plus shipping on the Mesh Tex II, even more for the CE rated armor Mesh Tex III

mesh jacket

Post by schroeder »

Is a mesh jacket enough protection in a fall or will it just shred when you slide across the pavement. I saw one I liked by First Gear but wondered about the safety factor in a mesh. Who can chime in on this issue? :D

Its designed to shred as it slides, and the armor gets held in critical places (elbows, shoulders, back) to prevent those parts of your body from shredding as well. Mesh jackets should be considered a "one time use" piece of riding apparel. Obviously, a mesh jacket is not going to protect as well as a perforated leather jacket, but its still worlds better than wearing a t-shirt, and still provides decent protection for the price.

With mesh also, shredding is better than not. If it doesnt shred apart, it will begin to melt, and you do NOT want that stuff fusing with your skin!

New enough has a Joe Rocket Phoenix 4.0 on sale for $89.99 and it comes in many colors. I like it in the FL heat so far.

What color green do you want?

You want specific green you may pay more or else find the one you want and watch for it to go on sale or closeout.

ha ha! Are you trying to match an Italia? I tried and didn't have much success (not in helmets either) so I hope you have better luck than I did!

The only colors I seemed to find were Black, Gray, Red, Blue, Yellow, and Pink.

mesh jacket

I bought a Fieldsheer for ~ 89 bucks at ironpony.com. The Fieldsheer, Scorpion and Joe Rocket brands have the best looking style and fit and they also have a very good price range. I'm not sure about green; I bought red for visibility and to go with my Pamplona. It has enough black on it to still look "cool" though!

I know I won't find one to match, but I figure any green is at least closer than yellow.

Sorry about that didn't see it was Textile. The reviewers classify it for warmer weather riding.

Maybe this one will work

Got two of these JRs, (One red, one silver). Got them on sale at New Enough for $50 ea several years ago... Wearing them over just a tee-shirt provides me with a safer and cooler ride, IMO.... 8)

I've got the Joe Rocket men's mesh jacket. When I first put it on it was hot and heavy but after I removed the liner it was much cooler. Other than going completely nude, there's nothing that will be cool in the South during the summer. Ergo, I just sweat and keep telling myself how much safer I am.

It has plenty of armor in the sholders and elbows and even has a back pad. Got the whole thing in red from newenough.com for under $100.

Tourmaster Draft

Post by Dan Buddy »

Picked up a Tourmaster Draft jacket this weekend. They don't have a lot of colors to choose from but I was after black. Its about as cool as your going to get for summer riding.

Yeah I was about to ask what a decent year round jacket would be in the South. Want to ride in the winter and summer, and don't want to buy 2 jackets...Would you recommend any other's than just the Joe Rocket? Not really a fan of their large font branding.

I haven't found too much gear without the horrendous branding unless you get something in solid black. At least Joe Rocket isn't as bad as Scorpion EFX.

Most stuff is made for crotch rocket riders and they tend to like all of the garrish decorations. Maybe in the coming months we scooterist will have more options as our numbers grow and manufacturers see us as a good market.

I bought a "Nitro Racing" mesh jacket with a zip-out liner from The Motorcycle Shop here in San Antonio. The rubber logo patches were rather small and easily removed with a seam ripper. It's worked well in the South Texas heat so far.

I hear ya on that one....Something that is quieter, but not necessarily black, it's hot enough without having the jacket soak up more sun.
