So this isn't a Buddy, but it's a scooter: Yes Man

Any other scooter scenes out there? (I saw the Jackass 3D thread...)

That's actually an Aprilia Mojito! Great scoot, kind of hard to find these days.

Not a movie, but one of the episodes of second season Doctor Who has the Doctor and Rose riding around London on a Vespa.

First one I remember seeing in a movie was in 1984's "The Terminator" where Sara Connor is riding some kind of Elite.

I saw "Roman Holiday" well after that, even though it was made 30 years earlier.

Does the fact that you can ride a Vespa (with a passenger armed with a rifle or RPG) in the game "Battlefield:Vietnam" count? I ask because the game fundamentally grabs every cliche from Hollywood portrayals of the Vietnam war that there are. Sort of a scooter-sighting-by-proxy.

just off of memory.....

Encino Man - paulie shore rides a PX150
Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter - Jesus rides an 80's honda "Mascoot"
28 Weeks Later - Brother and Sister ride a modern scooter through post-quarantine london
The Interpreter - Nicole Kidman rides a yellow mid-60's Vespa GL
Saved - the male lead rides a silver PX
Bottle Rocket - Dignon (Owen Wilson) rides a honda cub
Quadrophenia - duh
Alfie - Jude Law rides a very questionable "bodge" 1967 sprint, desiquised as an SS180. lame. equally lame movie.

if you limit it to just Vespas, this was a comprehensive list, up to the date of publication.

He He He, I know, but I couldn't pass it up. I was flipping through channels the other day and saw a scooter in a TV show. Turned out to be Knight Rider. I looked it up and posted. That's 10 minutes of misspent time I will never get back.

Yeah, and there's a great scene where Jason Segal is screaming down an LA freeway with his Iphone mounted to the dash and earphones connected with the regular headphone wire. He somehow hears the phone ring then answers it, all while doing 75 MPH.

Using a bluetooth headset, I have answered my phone on my scooter, but only going about 15 MPH and on my residential street 300 yards from my house.
Thought I was buying a Buddy and ended up with a People 150. Hanging out for the cool conversation!

Ahhhh, Home!
Will have to go and see that when it comes out and do some Brighton spotting! Not sure what pier they used for some of the scenes, but the Brighton Pier (Formerly called the Palace pier) has a fun Fair at the end of it these days!

If you ever get the opportunity to go to Brighton, the Ace Cafe run is one of the best and biggest London to Brighton 'runs'

40,000 bikes!

Oh, and the Seagulls in the 'superseagulls' name are Brightons Division 1, professional soccer side....

As we were instructed in a hilariously awful Powerpoint during the lame "How to Build a Cafe Racer" presentation at the International Motorcycle Show this weekend, "MODS rode scooters. ROCKERS rode cafe racers."

I'm not to sure about that, I would have thought the 'Rockers' were probably riding pretty stock Triumphs, BSA's or Nortons.....?
I remember as a kid the thousands of scooters along the Brighton seafront, and when we used to go to the Isle of Wight on vacation (The Who used to play a big festival there) The Mods were definitely more visible than the rockers!

Any pictures from the bike show??? You need to post a top 10 of drool worthy rides!

In the US, the mods & rockers history and legacy have been totally mythologized and distilled into what are probably very inaccurate stereotypes. I'm amazed at how much people still cling to this stuff 50 years after the fact.
superseagulls wrote:Any pictures from the bike show??? You need to post a top 10 of drool worthy rides!
No scooter-only companies there and there are few new models for next year. So the top drool-worthy rides were the Triumphs (Bonneville T100 and Thruxton), Enfields and BMWs. We did get to see the BMW Concept C electric scooter. It's pretty sci-fi.

growing up i always knew if i were in England in that era i'd have been a Rocker and not a mod because i liked leather and boots and thought i liked motorcycles. which always disappointed me being i am the biggest Who fan on planet earth, and appreciated their mod inspired fashion sense and all of Pete's art school pretensions :nerd:

then i rode a scooter 5 months ago and Rockers now seem the dirty, smelly, long haired poofs they always have been, but i was too n00b to see!

i guess it just took a Yank like myself over 30 years to finally "get it." but i am glad i did :P

How can this thread have this many posts without a mention of the 1953 classic, Roman Holiday?

Or is it in there and I just didn't see it? :P

edit: ooops, it's mentioned in about the sixth post. My bad!

Flashback! "Ruby said that you were on your way… The red alert was sounded and it blew the night…" Can't believe I remember the lyrics to "Stand By"; haven't even thought about it in years. Good tune. As if the '80s needed a new wave swing/doo wop band!

Okay, I need to find that song now. I only have it on vinyl. :nerd:

Not quite a necropost (a Lazaruspost, maybe?), but I just came back from the best scooter-in-a-movie movie so far this year. Attack the Block has it all: a scooter, a pit-bike, a small dirt bike, aliens and weed. And British accents. Winner!
