Is this a fair price on used stella? Never mind, dealer gone

Post by ScootLemont »

hey team Stella
I am thinking about a 2005 Stella from a local Genuine dealer
Dealer's website says:
2005 Genuine Scooter Stella ORANGE-
GOOD CONDITION 9 OUT OF 10 BY US
3942 MILES
RUNS AND DRIVES PERFECT
$2,000

I know the price really hangs on if the dealership is telling the truth... but It seems like a fair price to me.

the website also says "Service Contract Available" & I am thinking about that... if the price is not out of hand.

Anyone have any thoughts or advice for me on this?
Anything specific to check out on a 5 year old Stella?

Thanks for any help

I dunno, for only having 4k miles and running perfect, that price seems fair enough... Depends on what it's worth to you. Personally
I'd try to get it down to $1500 or at least a couple hundred off. See if they will include that service deal in the price. Maybe since they
are a dealer they could throw in an accessory you have your eye on, but probably not since it's used and was likely a trade-in. :?:

edit: It would be a good idea to ask if the price include tax/tag/title transfer. I don't know about where you're at, but that stuff is expensive.

Sounds fair to me, but keep in mind the market for new 2 stroke Stella's has been a bit soft, but that may change with the 4 stroke introduction.
Valves are for wussies.

I just paid 1400 for an 04 with 3k. And I think that was a bargain, but I'm in Oklahoma and I don't think the guy selling it knew how easily fixable all the little issues were that I didn't notice on the test ride. I would see if the dealer would agree to take care of any issues you find in the first week or knock a couple hundred off.

Hello ScootLamont,

$2000 seems high but it is spring and
cycles and scooters bring the best buck
this time of year.
Another thing to keep in mnd is that the 05's
were plagued with crank/bearing problems so you might
ask if this problem has been already dealt with. Also back
then the MSRP was around $2800.
Bottom line I'd pay the 2 large if a year warranty and road service
were included in the deal. It took me about a year and a half to finally
get my Stella, I looked at many used and eventally saved enough to
get a new one, with dealer money available.
Best of luck on your choice.

Cheers.

I have an 05 stella and she runs almost as good as the day I got her. I put on the sito+ exhaust, and she flys. If you are a decent scooter driver, then let them agree to let you drive it.

If you tell us the dealer, we may know how valid the dealer is!

But for 2 grand, it may be very on the fence of price verses happiness, BUT! I'd go for it.

Don't limit your search when you're looking for stuff. The buy I bought mine from had it listed on craigslist as an "04 Genuine Motor Scooter" and in the body of the ad was "1500cc Tangerine". And there were no pictures. But it was worth a 1.5 hour drive to check it out.

thanks for the suggestions....
I was hoping to trade in my rattler & not have to deal with selling it out right
I like the idea of riding in on one & home on the stella
+ I would really like to get one from a dealer I could go back to for work if it needed it
