Buddy 125 exhaust gasket.....

Post by giddyup98 »

I’m going to Be removing the exhaust on my Buddy 125 to replace the rear tire. Do I need a new exhaust gasket when I reattach the exhaust to the manifold or can I reuse the existing gasket? Thanks!

Not normally. Unless your Buddy is really old, you probably will not need a new gasket.

The answer will be obvious when you remove the existing one. If it's burnt up, then yes.

Well, it looks like it's a 2009 model...

Seems to me it's a "while you're in there" part. A new one is a couple of bucks.

Exhaust Gaskets ordered for both my Buddies. Gonna need to change the rear tire on my wife’s 170i soon.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

I am pretty sure I put over 40,000 miles on one with no problems.

I know I have done over 20,000 on a few of them with no issues.

It all depends on how well the original exhaust gasket sits on the exhaust pipe indentation. When reinstalling the exhaust pipe after changing the tires on the Buddy 150 the original exhaust gasket didn't sit well in position, it moved a bit. Starting up the scooter resulted in a louder exhaust note. Ordering a new exhaust gasket (I bought 2) took care of the problem. The new exhaust gasket sat perfectly in position during exhaust re installation, resulting in the expected quieter exhaust note.

For now on. I will use a new exhaust gasket when reinstalling the exhaust pipe which is a pain to do.

I finally went to Reinstall the exhaust on my buddy 125 this morning, when I realized the original round crush gasket was different than the “conventional style exhaust gasket that I received in the mail. Does this new style gasket replace the original round crush gasket? If so, do I have to remove the original gasket before using the new one?

Never mind. I got my answer from the vendor I bought them from.

If anyone wants to know, the new gasket is a much better replacement for the OEM round one.

Did you remove the original crush gasket?

Yes, you don’t need it with the new gasket.
