So my Buddy 150 recently started making a cruching noise that almost sounds like a metal spring creaking. I found a video on youtube of a fella with the same noise coming from his. I already changed my gear oil, engine oil, changed to dr pulley weights, cleaned out the variator, cleaned and checked clutch and replaced the belt.
Also, when i was cleaning and replacing the belt it still made the noise with the clutch off the bike when i turned the back wheel by hand and it seemed worse in reverse.

The Buddy 150 does have a rear drum brake, so you might not be far off...and, I have heard noises similar to those that the OP describes from drum brakes in cars...usually caused by accumulation of brake dust.Syd wrote:I didn't see a brake rotor so there is a (remote) chance that something came loose in the brake drum. But I agree with those that say it is a wheel bearing.
Of course, with the rear wheel off, both can be checked.
Some people can break a crowbar in a sandbox.

Could be the brakes, but it's the cyclic nature of the noise that's making me think it's a bearing. Had a '73 Plymouth that used to eat front wheel bearings by the bucket and it sounded just like the video. Damned thing also blew out the ballast resistor every time it rained. Got to the point where I could change either in 10 minutes blindfolded.
