Ok
I will push farther to the left of E then
When mine reads E I can only put about 1.2 gal. in

note: this includes the first fill up before I smashed that little wire with my rack

Thanks again

yeah... but its just an electrical wire right?
so as long as its not broken (or partially broken) it should still work the same... right?

electrical wire are not like fuel lines, where if you kink it, it reduces flow... right?

My gas gauge moves... & when I am down about 1.2 gallons it reads E - but when I fill it up it reads between 3/4 & F - depending on the day....

on a related note... I like how full is "1" on the Stella gauge
full was 4/4 on my fiat

Never trust the gas gauge, no matter what on a new or old bike. I kept a visual check on the level before i left for a ride.
Also, go hit up a camping store or army surplus and buy the 1L steel fuel bottle for liquid camping stoves. It was more than enough in emergency fuel outage situations.

As long as you didn't actually cut the wire, or damage the insulation severely enough to allow the conductor to touch grounded metal, any pinching will not affect the electrical performance of the gauge. So sayeth this retired electrical engineer. :P

Is it just an electrical wire running to the fuel sensor, (not quite sure what you guys are talking about)

If so… pinching a wire won't really hurt as long as the wire inside the plastic sheath isn't broken or severely compromised.

The bigger problem is that if it's pinched somewhere, the original friction from tightening the bolt, (or over time friction/vibration) can wear through the sheath and ground it out, that happens especially somewhere where the wire or other parts move around regularly (headset, etc). Worse, such a short can be intermittent and hard to diagnose.

Unless it was a ground wire, then you're just doing it a favor.'

Ok... so no harm no foul

It wasnt really pinched - just flattened a little when I mounted the rear rack & that was running under the rack bracket

After someone mentioned the wire (I think jmkjr72) I move it so it is not under the bracket

So... if the gauge works at all... the wire must be fine
