No problems in 2800 miles of a 3-mile commute over 2 years.

Depends a lot on weather, ride lengths, time between rides, how its stored, aftermarket parts and other things. Plus the stock 50 battery is half of what the 125/150's have. Never a bad idea to upgrade.

If you upgrade the battery do you need to change anyrhing else to be able to keep it charged? What battery would you get/reccomend?

The only thing you may need to do is alter the battery cover so that a larger battery will fit. When searching for a battery, look for one with the highest amp hours that will fit in the compartment. The 50 comes stock with a 3 amp/hr battery. The 125/150's battery is 6 amp/hr. I upgraded to a 9 amp/hr battery from batteries plus.
