I earned this one today! Couldn't ask for a nicer day in early March to ride 2 hours each way for no other reason then a scooter tag!

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/VcctbCIvT9A" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Next tag.... a speed limit sign and a "your speed" digital sign.

Do the two signs have to be attached? (that's a 20mph school speed limit sign on up ahead)

I don't want this to get stuck for another month, so I'll post my cheesy picture of my Buddy on a scale later... still thinking of a new tag though.

I actually took a photo at lunchtime today (street-level scale outside an abandoned brewery), but I can't Bluetooth it from my phone to my work PC. And I have all SMS and Internet turned off on our phones, so I can't mail it to myself.

Yeah, no pic, no tag. Maybe this evening, if it's still up for grabs. :D

OK, OK, so maybe the hockey thing was ambitious, given that everybody's out scooting in warm weather.

This one should be easy!!! Let's change it to..... a Civil War memorial (Union, Confederate, or both):

drat, I didn't get my scale pic posted in time...

Image

300 lbs but I think it was rounding because it only went up to 450 when I put my 165 lb body on it…

...

oh, I think we have hockey around here somewhere! Winterhawks? I'd have to hunt it out... probably easier than a civil war memorial around here...

Next tag: Duck pin bowling! Okay, maybe just a bowling alley, for those not in New England, with a cartoon mascot.

Nice. I was looking for one a couple years ago when I was in RI. I really would have liked to get into the underground alley by the old scooter shop, what was it called?

Not too many bowling alleys left out here in the west. Most have been torn down in favor of the Family Bowling Center, ugh.

Hmmm, I know where that bowling alley is. Quezzie that ain't no stinkin' Buddy you're riding!

Syd, Down Under Duckpin Bowling. Fire in 2010. The scooter place was Java Speed (hi Patrick!). If you're ever in the area, give me a shout!

Bowlmor in New York was awesome for underground bowling. Unfortunately it's been hipster-ized like the rest of the island.

O, what a great looking place. God I miss bowling alleys. I wonder if the lanes are still there? That's probably inches thick rock maple. I grew up in N Central MA - we had quite a few old houses up there too; no duckpins though, just candlepin and ten pin. I stopped into a rubber duckpin place just west of the Hudson River once those puppies fly!

Siobhan -- It's true, I got a new scooter about a month ago. Have promptly put ~500 miles on it, weather allowing (first service is scheduled for this weekend). I suppose I should update my profile to reflect my current fleet...

Nice link about Down Under Duckpin Bowling! I have to admit, I drive by the Bowling Academy regularly and always wanted to remember to tag it. Mission: accomplished.

Syd -- Speaking of New England bowling variations, I recently discovered candlepin bowling with friends in Boston. How many ways to chuck a ball at standing objects! Welcome extended, if you find yourself around here. :)

Wow, duckpins in MD? That's cool.

Everything you ever wanted to know about candlepins. The hardest bowling game of them all.

I'm pretty sure I don't have duck pin bowling, but I have scared up an alley with a cartoon character mascot. Like Lemont though, have to wait for the rain to let up!

and for the next tag - a place buying gold (gold store, coin shop, jewelry store, etc - but there should be some kind of sign showing they buy gold.

...I want this one. If no one has gotten it yet, and the weather is nice on Friday afternoon I'll do it. There is a tattoo (scratcher) parlor in Schenectady with a big "TAT's 4 GOLD" sign.

(Yes, it says "tat's" not "tats"... their actual signs also have several spelling and grammar mistakes on them, "Tatoo's With a Touch of Skill," for example. I would never let them touch me.)

Not to be overly picky, as a relative newcomer to the thread, but where's the cartoon mascot on the bowling alley?

I'm all for a reasonable (week-long) statute of limitations on strict interpretation, if it keeps the game moving! :)

Does this place buy gold? That was the tag.

Those places are like flies on poop around here. AZ had hundreds of payday/title loan places charging 4-500% interest, that voters let the exemption expire on. So they all turned into Cash for Gold places.

No cartoonish bowling alleys though.

yeah... thats why I picked them - I didnt have anything really creative that wouldnt be pretty tough so I figured I would go with something easy to keep it moving.

Trading tats for gold is close enough to buying gold for me (actually I think its better)

There isn't a cartoon mascot, but I didn't realize bowling alleys were quite such a dying species, nevermind lanes with cartoon adornment. So I'll let this one slide... ;)

They did have a little bit of written on duct tape under "TAT's 4 GOLD" that said "or cash!" But I wasn't sure how to interpret that, tats for cash or cash for gold... I've never been there for ink, and I will probably take my picture from across the street because it is just a wee bit sketchy. Lots of purple neon inside... and by lots I mean that's pretty much all the lighting they have in their lobby/reception area. I haven't gone inside to see if the areas where they tattoo have real lights or not.

Well, for me the slight delay was finding the cartoon character, not the alley, which are still common around me in ol' Virginny. But I did ultimately find one with the mascot, and I will share it for laughs, though I slightly hesitate to present . . . Mr. HAPPY!:

Okay, I'm not entirely sure where we're at on this, but i think we're at the "Cash for Gold" sign. Here's my attempt. i hope it passes muster:
Image

And the next tag: Your scooter with an over sized version of one of those QR/matrix codes. It does not have to be as big as the one in this pick, or it can be bigger.

I'll get to it just for funsies since I missed out on the tag, unfortunately the weather friday (and all weekend) was much colder and crappier than originally forecasted. This week is supposed to be cool, but nice... so one of these days I'll make a stop in Schenectady to get the pic.
