My petcock broke and dropped off

I hope my petcock isn't rotten and/or diseased. I was riding 'round town nice & slow, working my way up to third gear (I made it there more than a few times, hankyewverrmush). Suddenly at a red light, my Stella stalls out and refuses to start. I look at my gas gauge, and oops, it looks like she's empty. Luckily (OMG SO LUCKY) I was literally across the street from a gas station, so I push her on over. To my surprise, I find my petcock -- knob, stem, and all -- resting comfortably on my floorboard.

Has this happened to anyone else? (Dang, I forgot to take a photo!) Thank their gods for Roadside Assistance! Took awhile, but I got my bike to the shop all the same.

I'm a n00b, too. That's why I look things up! HINT HINT

Quick & dirty definition: sometimes it's called the fuel tap or that valve thingy beneath the seat. Full definition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petcock

Here's some pics from the scooterhelp website: http://www.scooterhelp.com/genmaintain/ ... l.tap.html

I'm about to ride over to the shop now. I'm sure I'll remember to take photos & post 'em, right?

The fuel tap which operates the petcock is a rod with a paddle (labeled C for closed, O for opened) at one end and two prongs at the other. The prongs are basically crimped into place, gripping the petcock via tension not unlike a twist-tie. One of my prongs broke somehow, which is why I found the rod on my floorboard when I stalled at a red light. The shop replaced the rod, and all is well.

Now if it would only STOP RAINING!

I think that rain is done, finally. Yay.

Know anyone who wants to buy a nice, hardly used stella in Philly?

You will have an equally big problem finding the petcock on your Buddy. The Stella has a manual fuel shutoff (petcock). The Buddy uses an automatic one that is hidden inside the engine cover.

Heh-heh
