Should I expect better acceleration and a better top speed with a Prima pipe?

I did a review here... not that I got the Pipe, the prima 9.5g rollers, a larger jet for the carb, and a 1500 RPM compression spring...

but long story short... faster smoother acceleration.

I think I need to rephrase this... I know by Buddy will accelerate better, but will the top speed get better? With the riding I do I need more speed.

leave the stock weights in there... if your pipe came with the prima rollers like mine, it will hurt your top end.

I am thinking about throwing the Dr .Pulley Variator with sliders in and see how that does.

If you get the DR. Pulley variator, you'll need some sliders, the sliders work alot better in the new variator.

From past reviews, people say bottom end is better, and top has a few mph added, but top end always depends on your weight, if you're skinny and thin, you might feel a boost at the top, but if you're big and tall, the only power gain you'll feel is at the bottom.

I did the pipe only and yes I got more top end. I'm pretty average sized (5'10" 170) and with the Prima I have no problem hitting 70 Bmph and I still feel it could go further.

Did you change your variator/rollers/sliders/jets? Or did you just slap on a pipe?

I am guessing by " Pipe Only " he meant... only the pipe... :P

Just the pipe. These things should really be done in stages because it takes your engine a couple hundred miles or so to adjust to the pipe. I would start with the pipe, after 100-200 miles see how it feels. If you want more bottom go for the lighter roller weights or performance clutch springs. I've had the pipe on for about 350 miles and feel I want a little more rip on the bottom end without sacrificing the beefier top I got from the pipe so I'm going clutch springs. Mikie, how do you like the 1500 RPM springs?

Its like a ROCKET on the bottom! and my acceleration is completely linear up to about 45 or so.

it is the NCY GY6 Vento 150 1500RPM spring.

one thing I should probably change in my review...

The Prima Rollers SUCK! I can tell they are starting to flatten out allready... about 950 BUM <-- Buddy Units of Measure. after they were installed.

I've heard this before. It's shaped my thinking into the Prima pipe, and all the rest will be Dr. Pulley. Pipe first, then the rest will follow shortly behind.

Has anyone installed the Prima pipe themselves and, if so, was it fairly straightforward?

I know that there are a lot of people on here who have done this themselves with no problem, but I'll toss in a little that I learned doing it.

I had a hard time attaching the pipe to the header because the nuts that hold the pipe on didn't have clearance to turn. I reamed out both holes in the flange on the pipe and this gave enough wiggle room for the nuts to turn.

Also I had a hard time attaching the tail end as well and ended up having to dremel the bottom rear flange in order to get the holes to line up.

After those modifications, it was easy-peasey.

Good Luck!
