Greetings all -

I am thinking and planning for summer. I would love to do a solo fundraiser ride for a Haitian Deaf children's orphanage to raise money for a new dormitory as they are bursting at the seams. I'll be riding for two weeks and documenting all my adventures.

How does one usually raise money for charity by doing a two wheeled ride? Is it a flat donation for a commemorative t-shirt? Is it donating for access to exclusive access to a online narrative of the trip? Per mile? I have all those ideas, but no where to start.

Here's a picture of Ursher and I. Ursher was dropped off at the orphanage on that exact same day this picture was taken. Her mother could no longer care for her since she could not hear and did not have any language. Her smile spoke to me nonetheless.

1 plan an awesome ride with good starting point and plenty to see
2 get sponsors, donuts and coffee at start, raffle prizes, etc....
3 set up a FB event, get more sponsors
4 promote the living day lights out of it. Local scooter clubs and shops, press releases for local paper and news
5 probably need to set yourself up as a not for profit.
6 charge ride fee (people will pay because it is a good cause, and your sponsors are keeping them well fed). Plus it's tax deductable.

Find a generous shop in your area that will back your idea. Start the ride there.

Thanks for the tip. Maybe I should clarify - this is a solo ride thing. I will be riding for two weeks to raise awareness and funds for the Haitian Deaf Orphanage.

Look at a few of the rides Genuine has sponsored in the past. I can't remember all the names. Perhaps you can get some ideas there. I never quite know where the $$$$ comes from for these things either.

There was the Guy who ride his 200 LML across the US this summer, maybe he can help.

Contact Genuine, even if they decide not to help, perhaps they can give tips on how they do it.

Somebody help my memory, what was the love tour. The guy giving out hugs?

The Genuine sponsored rides weren't fundraisers, more "awareness" raisers, though Kemmy (Hugs) and Alix (Peacescooter) may have some advice.

There are many crowdsourcing sites set up to facilitate pledges for fundraising. Some of these integrate well with other sites, your own blog, etc. I believe some allow pledging for various milestones (every 100 miles ridden or similar).

I have found that a surprising number of businesses and people with donate money for something by just being asked. Avoid national corporations, but if you hit a bunch of local places and ask for money for your project, you will get some who will say "yes." i don't even know that you need to incorporate the ride into it.
Out club did a few rallies. My clubmates and I went to a bunch of local businesses and asked them to donate stuff for the rally. In return, i put their name and a hotlink to their business on our website that gave info about the rally.

Thank you everyone for the ideas. I think I will promote the ride via social media, participation in some of the local scooter rallies, and word of mouth. I will print out t-shirts and give to those who donate above a certain amount.

When I do the ride, I will be posting on social media updates of the trip. People can donate however they feel. I'm not too comfortable with the "per mile" concept. That leaves a lot of uncertainty for both the donor and I. The primary reason for this ride is to ride with a purpose, and to raise awareness of Haitian Deaf people.

I may be contacting some companies for donations towards riding gear or service.

I am hoping to do this ride on the Genuine g400c.

First off...great photo and a great cause! I ran the CBR in 2012 and we asked people to donate a penny a mile to Surfers for Autism. I was out of country and really wasn't able to promote as much as I wanted to. We raised about $3,000.

I am registered for the 2016 CBR. This is again a case of "as long as we are doing this we might as well raise some funds for a good cause" thing. I'm running no matter what.

I have contacted and been accepted to raise funds for Petfinders Foundation which helps animal rescue organizations http://www.petfinderfoundation.com/. So here's the deal. In both cases...I don't handle any money. There will be a link on my http://www.teamscootertrash.com/ site going directly to their page and a special donation button on their page. They are a 501(c)3. I am not.

I do have permission to use their name and logo to attract donors and sponsors to help offset CBR costs, however any donations go directly to them. Last time some people gave like a 10 or 20 to us and we just wrote a check at the end.
