Hey, Jess, what's up? Nice to see you. Have a nice Cannonball? It was particularly exciting from the sidelines. Inspiring, even. Yeah, it was fun. Well... actually it was hard work and a grueling race, but I'm certainly not sorry I did it. In retrospect, though, it would have been nice to have seen...

Wow... I was kinda thinking it was more about some of the postings than an actual hack attack. Been watching a few get outta control the last week or so. But shut down the entire site? That is not the answer... just weed out the wienies messing it up for the normal people with self control. Yeah, b...

A Fond Farewell
All, I've just finished moving Modern Buddy from my account (where Modern Vespa is hosted) to a new server, owned by Eric. <doctor> Well, actually, it's the same server. Well, actually, it's the same thousand or so blades in a grid. At the same hosting company. The IP address even stayed the same. B...

Modern Buddy -- Change in Ownership
All, Effective today, Modern Buddy will be changing hands. It's clear to me (and has been clear to me for a while now) that I've got too many things on my plate to continue to give Modern Buddy the support it needs and deserves. MB's own Eric Almendral has agreed to take ownership of the site. Eric ...

Tbone- The Vespa LX150 is legal on the freeway in California. According to the CHP officers and other law enforcement agents my wife spoke with at the CA capitol, the Vespa LX 150 is actually a 149cc and thusly considered a motorized bicycle which is NOT legal on the freeway. The LX150 is actually ...

Re: What happened to the Stebel horn post??
He then tore down the thread. The thread was taken down because it got argumentative. For the record, jrsjr was right: you cannot (reliably) wire a Stebel Nautilus air horn directly to the existing horn wiring. I installed one of these in a Vespa GTS a week and a half ago and put a 5 amp fuse in th...

Speaking as someone who owns and loves a Vespa GTS, I would suggest crossing the Vespas off your list. Not because they're bad bikes (they're certainly not) but they're expensive to buy, expensive to fix, and attract unwanted attention when parked outside. I suspect your future scooter is going to l...

Spotted someone on an orange buddy today at lunchtime headed East on Stevens Creek @ De Anza Blvd. I was on my Moto Guzzi, sitting at the light as you whizzed by.

Re: Tech Reference
How about a tech reference section of the forum? Something like the one on MV. I've been resisting doing so because turning posts into complete articles, even when the posts were pretty good to start with, is a lot of work, and I don't have a lot of time to devote to it. Even the TechLib on MV hard...

Okay, I think I might know what was causing the problem. We had a similar problem reported some time ago on Modern Vespa, and I made a change there that seems to have fixed it. I believe the problem was with pages that had attachments (anything with a paper clip next to the subject). I made the same...

Re: how does the advertising work?
Jess Do you get the same amount of money for having the ads on the site even if we never click on them? If you get more money for the number of people who click on them, I am not opposed to helping out with the occasional click or two, just let us know. Google pays by the click. HOWEVER, before any...

I second the vote for the Posi-Lock connectors. They're not especially cheap, but they're very effective and re-usable. They can also be disconnected without cutting any more wire, so it makes wiring more flexible if you want to change something later. They come in three sizes, and in regular and wa...

I may be imagining it (or perhaps my computer is just old and tired), but it seems that the reload after posting is a bit slower now. Perhaps because it's fetching a new ad from somewhere? I would be willing to believe that page reloads across the board were slightly slower, due to pulling a new ad...

Advertising on Modern Buddy
I'm experimenting around (as I have been on Modern Vespa) with some advertising. It's an experiment, and if it proves too intrusive, I'll pull it. Besides paying for the hosting for MB and MV, this is primarily geared toward generating some revenue that we can use for promotions and shwag. We now re...

I don't even like going across that bridge in the car! I always end up with visions of collapsed spans going through my head  Only one or two road panels from the Bay Bridge collapsed during the Loma Prieta quake. The nasty damage was on the Cypress structure (in Oakland) where the whole dam...

How many scooters does your wife have, or do you have more than one wife? Two. One stays in Oakland and one stays in San Francisco. Which was 1st, the LX150 or the Buddy? Bay Bridge Buddy
I had the opportunity (and necessity) to ride my wife's Buddy across the San Francisco Bay Bridge this weekend. Legalities aside, it was an easy ride. As it happens, I had ridden my wife's LX150 the other direction across the bridge earlier in the day, and the Buddy was actually a good deal faster a...

I drive a Subaru Stationwagon and it has a hitch. I'm actually not sure what the rating is on it. I'll have to check. I like the idea of not needing a second person to get the scoot on the ramp. I'm nearly certain that your hitch is a Class I, which is not sufficient to hold a Versahauler or a Tilt...

So you work for the company and are against a recall on mirrors. Just say so. Don't start an arguement with me on something that doesn't even affect you, unless it does (that's what causes I think you work for the company). You don't have a dog in this race. I and many others do. Making accusations...

Nearly every motorcycle or scooter speedo is optimistic. They never underestimate speed, always overestimate. It seems to be an industry standard for all two wheel vehicles. I once heard a (possibly apocryphal) story of a Kawasaki that accidentally got shipped with a speedo that was accurate. They r...

I actually think there's more to the overconfidence factor with the Buddy. For one thing, a lot of people say the Buddy is much lighter than a Vespa or Kymco, when, in fact, the Buddy weighs almost the same as an LX150. But the way the weight is distributed makes it feel lighter and much easier to ...
